in fact, saying that dem candidates respond positively to promises makes more sense when the promises they choose to believe are made by republicans. that they're incapable of not being taken advantage of by the gop doesn't strike me as good strategy if they're supposed to be the opposition party

the flaw in your argument is that people respond positively to promises. i think you'll find that democrats failing for so long & so spectacularly in keeping their promises is just one reason voters are hesitant to get behind them again.
Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

"The average taxpayer in 2025 paid: $4,049 for weapons and war, vs. $2,492 for Medicaid, which provided health insurance to 68.5 million Americans in 2025 — about one in five Americans."
Absolutely incredible.

Browsing this company's website and the only way I can describe what I'm seeing is imagine a school shooter was a management consultant
Extremely normal and fine for a company to put this in a public statement

Riding the NYC subway with my extremely smiley firstborn was a great way to witness the inherent goodness of humanity. I remember a very tough looking gentleman shaking his head and muttering “I guess I’m having a good day today“ after my infant son beamed at him
Two ancestors of deer talk to each other, "Indohyus, my brother. I've decided to search for more food in the waters." "You will regret this Pakicetus. The environment will force you to adapt." "I just need some shrimps lol I will be perfectly fine." 35 million years later, a huge blue whale floats over a tiny deer, "AAAOOOOOOOOAAAAHHH MRUUUUUHHHH BWOOOOEEEEE" and the deer says "WTF"
for anybody who doesn't know about the deer whale thing here ya go

Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here

Screenshot of a Tweet by Professor Wright @Savion that says "Zero people die when a protestor shatters a Starbucks window. Tens of thousands die each year because the market denies them health care coverage. The state deems one of these a violent act, the other not. This is because capitalism values private property over human life."

Pull up a hot cup of hot java (especially if you're in Puyallup!). That's right! It's the long-awaited return of the Go Off Kings morning stream! Well, it's not the morning everywhere. But it is in our hearts. And yep - we're writing this post live on the stream right now www.twitch.tv/worstofkings
your bank account might be bigger than before, but does the ground beneath your feet feel stable? do you feel like if you had a medical emergency, everything would be fine afterwards? would going to the hospital ruin your life?
this is especially relevant not just in a pandemic, but in america.
The “Calvin’s dad explains two types” meme, inspired by a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. Clockwise from top left: 1) Calvin’s dad walks into frame to find Calvin trying to operate a record player. The dad says: “There are only two industries left in America: gambling, and fraud.” 2) The dad shows where the record goes, and how to turn on the player, while Calvin watches. Dad says “Derivatives? Gambling. AI? Fraud. Video games? Gambling. Social media? Fraud.” Calvin says “yeah”. 3) With one hand open palm up, Calvin’s dad cheerfully explains to Calvin out of frame below him, “The stock market looks like gambling, but it’s actually fraud.” 4) In bed in a dark room, Calvin clutches at his pillow, eyes wide in existential terror. There is no text in the panel.

can't stop thinking about how casually these monsters are dismantling everything good and useful the government does in a year and a half and comparing it to Joe Biden who couldn't even manage to fire Louis DeJoy in four
that was 33 fucking years ago - nothing came of it & these same people now run campaigns on the premise that nothing ever will.
what point did you possibly think you were trying to make with this post?!?
reading american psycho and realizing the reason i feel so bad all the time is that we have a government of patrick batemans
based on their actions over my lifetime I have zero confidence Democrats will do even a tenth of what's required to repair all this, let alone inoculate the country against a recurrence
It's mind boggling and depressing how automakers and oil companies were able to engineer car dependency so deeply that it spans generations and we pretty much can't fathom a way out of it.
