Pretty cool. I have been using the computer monitor or an iPad. The latter has generally given me better results. Since I shoot with camera lenses and not a 'scope it works well [enough].

Start of the run on the paved 1936 segment of Route 66 just east of Ash Fork, Arizona.
Wildflowers (verbena) along the side of the road.
The return on the 1922 gravel section of Route 66. The Kaibab National Forest has designated this loop as a bicycle route -- but also good for running!
Map of the run today. The upper segment is the paved 1936 route. The lower is the gravel 1922 route. And just south of that is the current I-40 that replaced Route 66.
Group run today was on a couple segments of historic Route 66 just east of Ash Fork, Arizona (1922 gravel and 1932 paved). Some nice wildflowers on the side.

Beautiful!
The apple blossoms and tree are in the Schultz Creek drainage a short distance downstream from a Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp -- no longer standing except for the foundation. A participant probably threw an apple core in the creek and...voila!
A 3x2 matrix of images: •Arizona Valerian, a cluster of apple blossoms, Oregon grape. •Candytuft, map of Schultz Creek Trail, a runner on Schultz Creek Trail
Did about 10k on a run today on Schultz Creek Trail. Still damp in spots from the rain and snow earlier this week. Some wildflowers are starting to appear. Details in Alt Text.

A comet is portrayed on a field of stars. The head, or coma, is at the lower left and the tail extends upwards to the right.

Like any good astrophotographer, I was out in the pre-twilight hours photographing Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS). Having Starlink satellites move across the image is expected these days -- and astro software can do a good job at removing the tracks. I was not expecting this! I looked to the east and saw a fast-moving streak of bright lights moving roughly southwest to northeast and low on the eastern horizon. My first thought was a reentry of a rocket booster or a satellite. A quick glance though my binoculars indicated they were evenly spaced. Starlink Group 17-27 had launched from California about 6 1/2 hours earlier so this was probably that group of satellites. They were bright! That's why my first thought was a reentry. I would estimate that they were at least as bright as Venus (although Venus is in the evening sky and was not available for comparison). This is a composite of two images. Each image is 120 seconds and there is a 10-second gap between images. That gap accounts for the discontinuity in the streak. I have seen Starlink trains before but never this soon after a launch. Bright, indeed!
Was photographing Comet C/2025 R3 (PanSTARRS) when Starlink Group 17-27 dropped in. Details in Alt Text.

Ashurst Lake, near Flagstaff, AZ
Blend of two images: (1) comet and stars; (2) foreground and lake. Was hoping for some reflections in the water but it was too breezy.

3x3 grid of photographs. Trail signs at intersections, rope swing; natural bench, aspen leaves, runner, flowering fruit tree, trail map.
Group run on Orbit-Apollo-Dipper-Spacewalk-Big Bang-Afterglow-Schultz trails in the Dry Lake Hills north of Flagstaff. Still a bit early for wildflowers but did see this Bitter Cherry in full bloom and vibrant green leaves on aspen trees.

I had a lot of trouble finding it -- even with binoculars. It should get brighter. Sky charts available at Spaceweather site:

First attempt at Comet C/2025 R3 PanSTARRS this morning. I had difficulty finding it when it was low -- easier as it rose higher but by then twilight was starting. Total of six 1-minute images.

Group trail run on the Woods Canyon Trail south of VOC and Sedona. Wildflowers were amazing. Plus the rain last night made it just a little bit better!

Really nice capture of a Glory with Brocken Spectre!
art002e009301 (April 6, 2026) – Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth. The corona forms a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk, revealing details of the Sun’s outer atmosphere typically hidden by its brightness. Also visible are stars, typically too faint to see when imaging the Moon, but with the Moon in darkness stars are readily imaged. This unique vantage point provides both a striking visual and a valuable opportunity for astronauts to document and describe the corona during humanity’s return to deep space. The faint glow of the nearside of the Moon is visible in this image, having been illuminated by light reflected off the Earth. Image Credit: NASA
art002e009288 (April 6, 2026) – Earthset captured through the Orion spacecraft window at 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 6, 2026, during the Artemis II crew’s flyby of the Moon. A muted blue Earth with bright white clouds sets behind the cratered lunar surface. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over the Australia and Oceania region. In the foreground, Ohm crater has terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks. Central peaks form in complex craters when the lunar surface, liquefied on impact, splashes upwards during the crater’s formation. Image Credit: NASA

For the Dec-Mar period, the southwestern ridge reigns supreme. An area over +5 standard deviations from the 1991-2020 normal. The eastern Siberia anomaly was *only* +4.5 standard deviations.
Let's check in on the Nov-Mar "cool/cold" season. It was warm. Very, very warm. A staggering 47% of the Contiguous U.S. had their warmest Nov-Mar since 1940-41. This Nov-Mar broke the record from 2011-12 by just over 1F. 🔥🔥🔥
The Contiguous U.S. had its 3rd driest March since at least 1940. 🌵
Early morning light in the canyon. Canyon walls and forest trees are reflected in the pools of water.
Arizona Valerian (Valeriana arizonica).
A runner ascends the trail in a shady canyon.
A yellow wildflower belonging to the mustard family--possibly draba albertina.
Did a group trail run in Kelly Canyon today. Early morning temps were in the upper 30s at the start...and much warmer at the finish.
Wildflowers are starting to appear but it's still early in the season.

Mean monthly temp was 48.5°F -- beating the old record by 3.6°F.
Mean monthly max temp was 66.9°F -- beating the old record by 4.8°F.
And the 3rd driest (0.04") -- which fell last night 03/31/26.
