We Need to Prepare for the Mammoth Task of De-Trumpification The damage he and his cronies have wrought could take decades to repair, particularly when it comes to science and public health.

The task of de-Trumpification of science and public health will take a generation and a "Marshall Plan" to rebuild. Without a bold, expansive vision to guide us, there is no coming back. Small-bore, poll-tested versions of the future will not help us. www.thenation.com/article/soci...

You watch Jon Ossoff speak like this about the actual stakes & then you watch Andy Beshear speak about Funny Words, & the abject poverty of the latter approach to Democratic politics in 2026 is so stark that you don't know whether to laugh or cry about the latter.

Children ‘low-hanging fruit’ in fight to end trans care, official at pro-Trump thinktank says America First Policy Institute, which boasts close ties to president, discussed transgender policy ‘reform’ at DC event

Once again, the right is openly admitting that the entire focus on trans youth is to ultimately ban all gender affirming care for adults.

All the credulous reporters and institutions that helped launder this right wing project are responsible.

How Silicon Valley Humiliated the Democrats When will they learn? The party remains far too solicitous of an industry that’s rewarded their fealty with four years of Trump and untold damage to democracy.

"Democrats need to break from this path and acknowledge that billionaires—especially those in the increasingly antidemocratic tech sector—are never going to side with them over the GOP." From @alexisgoldstein.bsky.social newrepublic.com/article/2087...

the fact that legislators are trying to say that computers are devices that require id verification and tracking to use should put fear into EVERYONE. FIGHT AGAINST THIS.

People who suddenly feel like their transphobic “jokes” and “fairness in sports” takes are a bad look while the government forcibly detransitions people don’t get to say “oh that’s not what I meant!” You did mean it! People told you what it meant and you did it anyways!

If you paid even a penny in federal income tax last year, you paid more than:

Tesla
Southwest
Disney
Live Nation
HP
United
PayPal
CVS Health
Palantir
Citigroup
PG&E
3M

That's right. They paid $0 in federal income tax.

It's time for big corporations to pay their fair share.

The average federal income tax for an individual is 14.5%.

But in 2025, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, paid just an 8% tax rate.

Meta paid just 3.75%.

Amazon paid just 1.37%.

Palantir and Tesla paid nothing.

Barrera said her husband said the smell of human feces in the toilet caused a fellow detainee to vomit and, in turn, created a chain of people vomiting.
She said her husband is asthmatic and has not received medication to treat his condition. The lack of medicine and the stress of the overcrowded holding cell has left him short of breath and teetering on the edge of an asthma attack, Barrera said.
ICE did not immediately respond to questions on April 10 about the conditions of the Mesa or Phoenix facilities.
After the publication of this article, Barrera told The Arizona Republic her husband was transferred to the ICE facility at San Luis Regional Detention Center at about midnight. The San Luis Regional Detention Center is in Southwestern Arizona and has the capacity to hold 700 people.

This is horrific. A U.S. citizen describes the facility in Arizona that her husband was brought to while he waited to be put on a deportation flight. Dozens of people were crammed into tiny cells, there was a "chain of people vomiting" from filthy toilets, no medical care, and only one meal per day.

The Scandalous Lies Used To Accuse Hasan Piker of Antisemitism: An Investigation How organizations and leaders laundered clips from an Islamophobic propagandist, deliberately distorted Piker's words, and erased context to manufacture a case against him.

I spent two weeks looking into accusations that Hasan Piker is antisemitic. What I found was damning: prominent organizations and leaders have spread total falsehoods about him.

Whether he's antisemitic is for you to decide. But everyone should care when the ADL & politicians spread disinformation.

This is a favorite strawman of the Religious Right, asserting that the exact phrase "separation of church and state" isn't in the Constitution.

They ignore that there are only three references to religion in the entire Constitution, all three of which work to separate church and state.

Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.

Honestly, it should frighten the fuck out of every freedom-loving person that the entire institutional apparatus of a country - media, government, science - can be so easily turned against a tiny minority of innocent people. Because they can do it just as easily to you.

you're putting your journalism behind a paywall, handing 20% of your revenue to Substack, and requiring people to hand some of their hardearned money (which they're paying to you as a subscription fee) to nazis and sex traffickers in order to read what you have to say.

that is profoundly fucked up.

While everyone is glazing the pope, perspective is crucial.

And a reminder: if you've got some extra coin to spare, toss some in the plate of trans journalists telling trans stories from trans perspectives, because the transphobic corporate media damn sure ain't going to do it.

Just to give a sense of the insane scale of billions of dollars…MacKenzie Scott got about $38 billion after divorcing Bezos in 2019. She has become the world’s most generous philanthropist, giving away over $19 billion…and she’s currently wealthier than she started.

Just. Tax. Them.

Marc Andreesen is shaping media into his vision and some of y'all are just letting him. You are letting SS use your left leaning journalism to launder right wing extremism. It's making me nuts.

Google, Microsoft, Meta All Tracking You Even When You Opt Out, According to an Independent Audit “This is the Strait of Hormuz in the data economy. If you want to make a change, this is where you cut it off. Anything short of that is theatrical political posture.”

A new independent audit says that Google, Meta, Microsoft are all still tracking users even after they opt out. 55 percent of the sites it checked set ad cookies in a user’s browser even if they opted out of tracking.

The companies all disputed it

Whistleblower says Trump officials thought USAID did 'just abortions,' asked for 'Barney-style' slides before gutting agency, per new book Read an exclusive excerpt from Nicholas Enrich's "Into the Wood Chipper"

When a USAID whistleblower told Trump people that it'd be hard to pull together accurate info on Malaria since DOGE had turned off access to the whole team who worked on that issue, one of the guys shouted “See, this is why, just because it might work at Twitter does not mean you can do it here!”

The Internet's Most Powerful Archiving Tool Is in Peril As major news outlets cut off the Wayback Machine, journalists and advocacy groups are rallying to protect the Internet Archive’s vast collection of web pages.

"A kneecapped Wayback Machine isn’t just bad news for accountability journalism—it will also be a blow to the legal system, as pages archived by the tool are frequently cited as evidence in litigation across the United States."
