A staggeringly thoughtful and balanced podcast episode by @ezraklein.bsky.social "Why American Jews No Longer Understand One Another" which is worth 24 minutes of anyone's time. I wonder to what extent these "family feuds" also happen among British Jews. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/w...

Yes. The other issue is, of course, preferences over the entire allocation at which point you're really quite stuffed.
As a parent, one learns to appreciate a brutal corollary of Gale's Top Trading Cycles: to avoid inefficiency, one of the kids must get their first-choice toy.
"I'm going to govern in econometrics" is a winning campaign slogan for the ages.
A lovely paper by two splendid auction theorists!
Auction practitioners might wish to pay attention to this one...

🚨 Excited to share a new paper just out in Journal of Economic Theory: "Bidding in Multi-Unit Auctions Under Limited Information" by @B_Kasberger & Kyle Woodward.

Hard to tell, but possibly. It's Einstein and Gödel.
1/n It’s been a long week, and we're only halfway, so here is a fun story of how new classical macroeconomics came to France - not the whole story, but part of the fabric of how economic ideas do travel
As any 1980s French story, it involves postmodernism, art, fashion & nudes (and macro)

I'm in Princeton for the first time and I was wondering if anyone knows where exactly this picture was taken, what is the house in the background, and whether one can still walk on this path? Thank you, hive-mind!
For theory, I always thought that the story on how the proof was found is much more valuable than the super optimized backward engineered final version of it which, most of the time, kills the intuition but "looks impressive", I would love to see more on this in small "sketch" paragraphs

Do you want to join our theory group in Bonn for a PostDoc? Several open positions:
econjobmarket.org/positions/11...
Bonn is a great place for micro theory with about 11 faculty members, 10 postdocs, a weekly theory seminar, and many other activities.
Every year, there is a Nuffield Postdoctoral Prize Fellowship that often attracts excellent theorists (e.g., Bruno Strulovici, David Delacretaz, Paula Onuhic and Ludvig Sinander). There is an extra postdoc in theory that I'm hosting for next year too: econjobmarket.org/positions/11.... Thanks, Ben!

🌎Does unilateral decarbonization pay for itself? In our new working paper, @adrienbilal.bsky.social and I analyze whether large economies like the U.S. and E.U. can justify broad decarbonization policies based purely on domestic economic benefits.
