Oh word, is President Quiet Piggy planning to yell mean things at the media? What a shame somebody leaked it; think how surprised we all would have been

This piece by @kevjg.bsky.social is the explainer you need on why the pope's voice seems so much more consequential now. jacobin.com/2026/04/vati...
National Review magazine cover featuring a cartoon drawing of then–SCOTUS nominee Sonia Sotomayor dressed as a Buddhist monk, legs crossed, swathed in a saffron robe, eyes closed and slanted sharply upward. It feels racist in multiple directions at once. It is captioned "The Wise Latina," because at that time the Right was obsessing over her having used that phrase in a way they were sure was outrageously presumptuous (it wasn't) and oxymoronic (because they're racists and misogynists).
Gotta resurface this classic of the genre for those too young to recall. Every time conservatives do a racism-sexism combo, I remember this.
i think it is cool that the president of the united states routinely slurs black people as biological inferior
He's a liar and a killer. I don't know what else to tell people, he's a rich eugenicist, he wants as many poor people as possible to die in the name of 'health.' He's a genuinely and uniquely malign figure in American life and his appointment was an act of violence
"Conscience isn’t a lane; it is the map that lets us find our way through all the lanes. Pope Leo is reminding us to not leave it behind."

Another reason to boycott Amazon.
Four aqua-and-white ceramic plates with a pattern of interlacing fish, plus a tall coordinating mug, resting on a multicolored woven table runner with pinks, purples, greens and blues.
A set of storage baskets woven of dried hogla grass, with a band of colorful fibers around their middles. They are paired with two Ethiopian woven bath towels in cream and teal.
Shopping fair trade is good for everyone, and SERRV needs support. Go spend some money! Look at these ceramics from Vietnam, runner from India, baskets from Bangladesh, and towels from Ethiopia, and browse www.serrv.org for more delights. I guarantee you will find something you love! 4/4
But the good news is, you can help! You don't even have to donate (although I plan to) or make a sacrifice. Just buy something beautiful for your mom for Mother's Day. Or treat yourself. My own home is full of SERRV's baskets, bedding, scarves, bags, jewelry and kitchen items that I love using. 3/
I've been buying gifts from SERRV for years (www.serrv.org). In the last year they've been asking for donations to cope with rising costs and "economic uncertainty caused by tarriffs and war." The rich are getting richer off the backs of the poor in the crudest, most obvious ways. It's enraging. 2/
Today I want to spread the word about SERRV, which is a fair-trade not-for-profit selling handcrafted items from artisans in some of the world's poorest communities. I adore what they do and sell, and I'm angry that the policies of our government are making that good work so difficult to sustain. 1/
And when he disappears for 3 days at a time every month, they scold the media for asking where he went and why his hand looks like that. Because they value transparency.
Two Mourning Doves at a bird feeder with a built-in camera. One dove is in profile, very close to the camera, and appears to be looking at it, and the other dove is further back, but also looks like it’s staring straight into the lens.
These two Mourning Doves at my feeder cam look like they just rang my doorbell because Tony Soprano sent them to collect a debt I owe.
Just doing this with my kids! They beg me every night for another chapter. Black Hearts in Battersea is a RIDE. 🐺🌊💥
Ah yes
IIRC Fr. Neuhaus tried a line like this on Iraq—we must trust in the good-faith deliberations of our leaders, who, unlike us, have access to all the relevant information. This time, of course, there hasn't even been lip service paid to good-faith deliberation, but Barron never lets that stop him.
Stealing this faster than ai steals people’s art
To the lapsed Catholics coming out of retirement because of Pope Leo’s calls for peace:
We are Catholics for Choice — pro-choice, pro-religious freedom, pro-immigrant, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and social justice-oriented Catholics, former Catholics, and co-conspirators.
You always have a home with us💙
I think before you build an Arc de Triomphe you should be able to identify at least un (1) triomphe
Mike Johnson–ass move. "Gosh, I didn't see any of that, I'm just so busy doing my JOB, which requires IGNORING the POPE"
So is that why we had so many terror attacks when Biden was president? Or...
When you use AI to do your writing, you are telling your audience: “I deserve your attention, but you do not deserve my effort.”
We can have a LITTLE fond idealizing of politicians, for a treat
"Perhaps the reason Americans root for a visit from Leo is that they envision him giving our feckless leaders the talking-to they deserve. But if you listen, he’s doing that already." — @mollieoreilly.bsky.social
Tell me again how #MeToo went too far
We are so good at ignoring the global context that even when we start listening to what the pope is saying, and he's saying it in Africa to Africans, we are still like, "ah yes, this is about us 😌"
News outlets are quoting the pope as saying that debating the president “is not in my interest at all,” but watching Leo’s remarks, I think he actually said “is not my interest at all,” which puts even finer a point on it. “Not IN my interest” = harms me. “Not my interest” = not my goal or desire.
And journalists who like to cover politics like sports!
This artist's style is "Melange of the NBC stars"
I truly feel like I could do a better job. Like, it would be crude and childish, but you wouldn't look at it and say "oops, the artist drew someone else by accident"
