"I RE-SANG IT IN 1986 BECAUSE I THOUGHT I COULD DO A BIT MORE WITH THE SONG - I FELT I WAS IMPROVING AS A SINGER, BECOMING MORE CONFIDENT - SO ALTHOUGH I DIDN’T REALLY DEVIATE TOO MUCH FROM THE ORIGINAL VOCAL MELODY OR PHRASING, I KNEW I COULD GET A BIT MORE TONE AND EMOTION INTO THE REWORK.” - RSx
I'm making one last push to let people know about this online talk -- sponsored by the British Library in conjunction with their current exhibition on fairy tales. The live stream starts at 7:30 tonight, but if you buy a ticket *before* the event you can watch it any time over the next 7 days.
Happy birthday!

As so many of us have said so often for a year now, any predatory man already ignoring laws forbidding assault isn't going to obey a 'bathroom ban'. Making life harder for trans people and many others with restrictions which will be impossible to enforce will do nothing to make any women safer.

I’m not telling you what to do, but many of us don’t use beta readers, so unless you have some you’d trust with your life, maybe right now is not a good time to start looking. I’ve seen dozens of angry/sad “My beta reader told me they fed my book to AI” posts, and fuck that.
omg I do this EVERY TIME.

Some indy research that I'll be sharing results of for everyone to see / use! This survey is on short fiction anthologies. You can take it even if you never read them, as there are Qs about that, too. The aim is to help anthologies shine, so please share it!

Happy Record Store Day to all who celebrate. Get yourselves out to your local indie shop and browse those bins. Maybe listen to an instore performance. And for sure buy some great music on actual physical media.
If you’re a Hachette author you should be talking to your editors and teams about this. If they’re using AI to counter AI, it’s still AI. And it may also be giving your work to the machine, serving it up on a contractual platter.
Nope. Fuck this article, The Telegraph for publishing it, and Pelling for writing it. Hope that helps.

I've signed up to host a lot of events @cymerafestival.co.uk this year - which is great (don't worry, I will also find plenty of time to attend 'barcon' in between all these!) Lots of fun events, including a first live actual play of @narrativedamagerpg.bsky.social with some amazing author-players!
A really lovely review of THE REPUBLIC OF MEMORY from @princejvstin.com but more an interesting rumination on generation ship stories in general.

Grand old time at @waterstonesargyle.bsky.social tonight celebrating new books by @cameronjohnston.bsky.social and Rafael Torrubia. Brilliant questioning by Cailean Steed, and generally a lovely night all in all.

Seriously. Boycott. And keep away from your kids.

Well my copy of First Mage On The Moon by @cameronjohnston.bsky.social arrived today - looking forward to reading. #booksky 💙📚
Two of the very best genre writers working today in conversation - not to be missed.
(And so much more great stuff happening at the Cymera festival too - an excellently run, hugely welcoming and friendly genre SFFH festival. If you are anywhere close to Edinburgh it's a great weekend.)
Fully delighted to be back at @cymerafestival.co.uk again this year & chatting with such a brilliant human!
My fav festival, full of warmth, joy & inspiration. Come join us!
