It’s wild to watch the Portland Fire work with a “trust the process” roster based on development long term. Meanwhile the Liberty are coming next month looking like Exodia the Forbidden One

This was an interesting WNBA draft for the Portland Fire. GM Vanja Cernivec wants fans to trust that the team made the right call with back-to-back international players tonight
www.oregonlive.com/portland-fir...
But Alex Sarama is BIG on developing players and the team seems to be in a mode of developing players and not brining in splashy names.
I think we remain in a "we'll see" mode.
Iyana Martin isn't coming this year. So the Fire basically acquired 2 forwards.
Obviously fans felt a little deflated bc there is a draft full of college stars from UCLA/SC/UConn and the Fire went international.

The Moda Center cleared out after the Portland Fire’s second round pick.
I guess fwiw it’s a Monday night and it’s now 6pm so maybe they needed to leave. But selecting 2 international players that most people here have never heard of was a tough pill to swallow.
There's a panel scheduled for later tonight at the Moda Center that fans at the watch party were going to watch.
But after the second round pick, a LOT of people got up and left

The Fire also have another international point guard on the team. 21-year-old French point guard Carla Leite was the Fire's second pick in the expansion draft.
Par for the course when a team selects an international player that few people have intimate knowledge of. Especially tough when there were still so many college stars available.
Flau'jae Johnson and Raven Johnson going after Martin was a stunner.
I'd be lying if I said it was a boisterous response when the Fire picked a European point guard with their first Draft selection
