"why don't you post in early modern english?" why don't YOU post in early modern english, you long-tongued babbling gossip?
writing is hard now because i can just distract myself with the internet. back in the day it was like well either i can write my play or i can stare out the window for 4.5 hours
"why does the winter's tale take place on the coast of a landlocked country?" look buddy i'm a playwright if you want a geography expert you should talk to someone else
wild that so much ancient greek literature has been discovered since i died. we used to only have seneca and ovid and stuff
new york city is incredibly clean and orderly compared to 1600s london. however i have a personal vendetta against the F train
saw hamnet. interesting concept but i would like everyone to know that i did not write "to be or not to be" while staring mournfully into a river. and also i'm hotter than paul mescal
"why doesn't christopher marlowe have a bluesky?" well he is currently in the hospital after getting into yet another bar fight. so it's best for all of us he's not on here
side note it's interesting when i see artists today being like "we should bring patronage back". on the one hand yeah it was awesome to get paid to just write but on the other it's not like i could write whatever i wanted. sometimes the lord chamberlain could be kind of a dick
tbh i want to rewrite henry viii. now that i'm not under the lord chamberlain's patronage and don't have to worry about offending royalty i could make it a real banger
i enjoy a lot of contemporary playwrights' work but don't get why no one uses iambic pentameter anymore. try it sometime it'll really spice up your writing
"why are there so many guys named antonio in your plays" idk what to tell you except that i was hooking up with multiple antonios back in the day
always sucks to live through terrifying leadership changes in empires. shit got kind of crazy when queen elizabeth died in 1603
as a playwright i try not to be TOO petty, but it's really satisfying that everyone remembers me and no one remembers robert greene. never liked that guy
Nice summer’s day you got there. It’d be a real shame if someone were to … compare thee to it
seriously, who do i contact about getting my royalties for the current circle in the square production of romeo and juliet? feel like i'm being cheated out of a lot of money here
"ohhh nooo the theatre is dying" look, back in my day people said the same thing. everybody complained about how teens only wanted to go watch dogs rip apart a live bear instead of going to a play
My cat Malcolm posed next to a secret Santa gift for my son to take to school.
When you didn’t decorate or anything else but you still want to post festively on social media, I give you Merry Malcolm: The Christmas Cat!😻🎄

scholars love to debate whether or not i was having sex with kit marlowe. well i was
trying to write a new play using only emojis. not going well
lots of people asking me who the dark lady and fair youth from my sonnets are. and to them i say...i'm not telling :-)
why does no one ever produce my play "love's labours won" anymore? you guys used to love love's labours won
wish i had written stereophonic. however i was dead for over 400 years so only learned about fleetwood mac 2 weeks ago
hate when people bring up henry 6 part 1. that was my first play! i was so young! i didn't know what i was doing!!! i thought it would be "funny" and "cool" to have joan of arc summon literal otherworldly fiends that only show up in one scene!
glad that the dramatists guild exists. back in the day if a theatre wasn't paying me the money i was owed i'd have to sic christopher marlowe on them until they relented
shocked and appalled to learn i haven't been paid ANY royalties for the usage of my work over the past 408 years!
also—when i wrote the line initially, i wrote "OUR philosophy," and i stand by that because it's a shared moment between hamlet and horatio (who are gay btw) but it's fun to see the way some different productions interpret the line as "your philosophy" so i never correct them
