A truly terrible social policy, finally consigned to history. Proof of the power of social security to lift huge numbers of people out of poverty.
A wonderful day for our whole society!
I’m really proud that @38degrees.bsky.social supporters backed brilliant charities, faith groups and unions to campaign for this. Tomorrow there’ll be more to fight for but today is a day to celebrate.
We give the government a hard time when they do the wrong thing but credit where credit is due, Rachel Reeves’ decision was the right one, made in the face of viscuous opposition from right wing media, Reform and the Tories. Kids who would have grown up in poverty now won’t.

Happy Easter to all the hopers and uniters.
And I usually love watching Ipswich score own goals etc etc and so on.
Ipswich Town are now getting mocked for the furore over rolling out the red carpet for Farage by…. Reform’s own twitter admin. What a self own they’ve done here.
Media outlets should have a long hard look at themselves about how they handled this on the night. They (inadvertently) help set an inaccurate and damaging narrative about this election. They have to learn lessons.
The interviewer works for the club !!
Nigel Farage’s visit to Ipswich Town has gone so badly the club’s chairman has had to record a humiliating apology video. www.itfc.co.uk/videos/0435d...
I am a bit biased as a Norwich supporter but the absolute state of Ipswich Town rolling out the red carpet for Farage. Good grief.
I just made one of my Lent donations to the fund to rebuild Hatzola after the antisemitic arson attack. We are all stronger when we stand together. Chip in if you can: gofund.me/b685da96b
Read this story three times and I can’t quite get my head around what the problem is other than the videos are better at highlighting this MPs work than the usual dross put out. Weird story. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
Whisper it quietly but this is a big, big decision - and it’s popular. Right for the BBC and a way of protecting the beeb against politicians who want to tear it up.
There is widespread public support for the BBC being given long-term protection, an opinion poll shared exclusively with PolHome suggests
A new Survation survey for campaign group 38 Degrees found backing for the BBC charter being put on a permanent footing across different voter and age groups
The Conservatives have had see problems with anti-Muslim hatred for years. They’ve ignored warnings and let it fester. This research is from 5 years ago. hopenothate.org.uk/2020/09/30/t...
This stuff makes "up the 'RA, Nigel?!" seem like a tea party. Astonishing. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/ng-i...
Wait wait I know this one
This is really important new research and it was great to work with Steve on publishing it.
Two myths exposed here:
1. “Labour shouldn’t worry about voters it’s losing to its left because there’s a minimal electoral impact”. False.
2. “Labour’s only losing are woke lefties in safe seats”. False.
Substack on new research out today with @persuasionuk.bsky.social @38degrees.bsky.social - why are people leaving Labour for other left parties, what does it mean and what does it not mean?

I shared what I took away from the polling on @labourlist.bsky.social today. There’s good news and bad news for the government — as well as some more thoughts on what any party that wants to appeal to these voters can do. labourlist.org/2026/03/revo...
It’s also wrong to say Labour only needs to bring back left defectors, ignoring voters it has lost to the right.
The common ground is fixing an economy stacked against working people.
It’s what Steve called “affordability populism” on the NS podcast. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KsG...

The juxtaposition here is killing me. Do labour strategists think they are currently very popular?
The recipient of the FIFA peace prize is bombing one of the teams due to play in the World Cup in his country in three months. Well done Gianni!
This is an illegal war launched with a barrage of lies. The British government should clearly and unambiguously oppose what Trump and Netanyahu have done.
Imagine America getting out rule-of-law’d by the British royal family. Hoo boy.
