Just to give a sense of the insane scale of billions of dollars…MacKenzie Scott got about $38 billion after divorcing Bezos in 2019. She has become the world’s most generous philanthropist, giving away over $19 billion…and she’s currently wealthier than she started.

I honestly think it depends on thre show and whether it has that much story to tell.
But for example - it was baffling to me that the original Netflix Marvel shows were built around PROCEDURAL characters (lawyer, PI, 'heroes for hire') but didnt do procedural episodes (even peppered throughout)
Oh no. Someone close to me had a stroke from hemoglobin going too low that it caused oxygen starvation in part of their brain. I hope you can find someone in your provider network to engage with all the risks involved

I'd like to add to the freelance discourse an acknowledgement of the fact that many EDITORS / employees at the publishers are also treated very poorly by their corporate leadership - getting massively overworked, underpaid, and forced to be the face / voice of business decisions they hate
If I were single and had to handle my own insurance, I would have had to leave writing years ago when I developed chronic medical conditions
That was a devastating couple years 10+ years into a full time writing career that made me realize the industry I love feels too little responsibility to the people making the books.
I moved to 50/50 freelance + a separate career I find meaningful, with stable pay.
PLUS: spouse gets our med ins.
I was full time writing for years, until multiple publishers, overlappingly, started delaying payments by months / taking months longer to move projects forward than they had me schedule for / cancelled projects that were contracted mid-process (because they lost rights or had leadership change)

This is not at all breaking news at all and many have pointed out as such but this is also the key reason why many folks will not partake of your Substacks (because it is hosted at THE Nazi bar)
Reviewing portfolios at @bkswpicspdx.bsky.social today from 4 to 6 (filling in for @stevelieberart.bsky.social.) I'll help you improve. Happy to look at illustration/sequentials and offer suggestions/exercises. I try to make sure people also feel encouraged by pointing out what I think you do well.
