Also very smart: the observation that this is a thing with dudes in particular. Again, when I was starting out, I had a guy friend who was seeing success in an adjacent industry, and I'm so grateful that we actually talked through the fact that we each felt a little bit of resentment of the other.

But when you're through that, you do reach a place of actual shared joy. Really, I promise.

Also, framing this as training is very smart. The jealousy element, the "why them and not me" is very natural and you need to break yourself of it. It will involve actually sitting with someone else's win and forcing yourself to feel good about it.

This is so huge. When I started getting some traction as a writer, I was really locked into a zero sum idea of things. That NYT he got was one I didn't. Now, anytime anyone I've had any positive professional interaction with gets a win, I'm over the moon for 'em. Somebody good got a win? Fuck yeah.
