What a tremendous day for housing in California. #SB79 goes to Gov’s desk to sign, and Court of Appeals hold in our Huntington Beach case that charter cities cannot use their status to delay or avoid adopting a compliant housing element.
Settlement terms include requiring the City of Norwalk to: -Repeal its unlawful housing ban -Create a trust fund for affordable housing -Pay $250K into the trust fund -Meet reporting requirements -Notify stakeholders that ban has been repealed
Last year, Governor Gavin Newsom, and California Department of Housing and Community Development, and I sued the City of Norwalk over its unlawful housing ban.
Today, we are announcing a settlement that holds the City accountable.
