Yup. Smith and her Universally Corrupt Party need to take their learnings, their liaisons and scuttle off and out of the Alberta Legislature. With friends like theirs, who needs enemies? The changes they want to foist on the Province are unwanted, unneeded and unconstitutional. #ABpoli #ABleg

The Lesson Every Democrat Should Learn From Peter Magyar's Victory In Hungary The cost of living crisis needs a villain.

Peter Magyar's victory in Hungary was fueled by a potent message tying the affordability crisis to the corruption of wealthy elites. With Trump presiding over unprecedented corruption and with prices skyrocketing, Democrats have the opportunity to replicate Magyar's success in November and beyond.

Albertans should also take heed! Our Gov't is increasingly authoritarian. We have sky-high electricity & insurance costs and a medical system creeping (galloping) towards an increased level of private care, & an education system favouring private schools over public. Who's to blame? #ABpoli #ABleg

It's not doing a particularly good job of hiding either. They've got 18 months to show ABtans that they deserve to form a Gov't. They must be worried that the next election isn't actually in the bag for them though the way they are acting. Wonder if their lawyers have figured out a winning strategy?

Smith's choice to aid & abet the AB separatist petition efforts while doing everything to bury the successful Forever Canadian petition (signed by at least 2 times more ABtans) tells us ALL we need to know about her interests & direction. What she does is more telling than any words she speaks.

Danielle Smith is attempting to take a chain saw to democracy in Alberta rather than just a subtle slow erosion of principals approach. At every turn, she denies the true intent of UCP actions, but it's really easy to connect the dots to piece together what's being actually foisted on the voters.

1/11 🇨🇦 UCP PROPOSES TRUMP-STYLE GERRYMANDERING 🇨🇦

Former Premier Rachel Notley warns in The Globe and Mail that rejecting the independent boundaries commission puts Alberta's democracy at severe risk.

Indeed! The Forever Canadian petition campaign was wildly successful, achieving the requisite milestones set out by Smith's own Gov't. She's chosen try & ignore it; to find ways to suppress the result while at the same time going out of her way to encourage a pro-separation petition effort. #ABpoli

Moving the Goalposts: Danielle Smith’s Referendum Narrative Starts to Collapse Under Its Own… There’s a point in politics where delay stops looking like diligence and starts looking like design. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith may…

Nailed it!
“When a Premier claims that delays are caused by a proponent’s inconsistency — and that proponent can demonstrably show otherwise — it doesn’t just undermine the specific argument. It erodes trust in the entire process.”

Justice Miller predicted a court challenge if the minority report was adopted. If there is real gerrymandering (and not just adding two rural seats), there will be a court challenge, which will lead to injunction, which will lead Smith to attack unelected Trudeau judges. All of this is bad.

Bad, and so unnecessary. At that point IMO The Premier will undoubtedly try to raise the temperature, but I feel the court of public opinion will largely go against her. Lots of ABtans are Cdns first and value their voting rights.

It will be fascinating to see how this unfolds, but if gerrymandering is the intent, I’d expect to see court challenges including an injunction request. The UCP will not have precedent history on its side should that happen.

Great! Now what's his timeframe I wonder? My guess that he won't be in any great rush to give it up.

UCP desires and moves to redraw AB riding boundaries while ignoring the Electoral Commission's majority report will result in unfair and unconstitutional disenfranchising of at least some urban voters. Their scheme needs to be scrapped. Ridings must reflect population shifts, not just area sizes.

When they talk about a $29 mm jet purchase, the annual operating costs are being totally ignored! Pilots and crew, fuel and required maintenance, ramp and airport fees etc. are all costs that must be accounted for in addition to the capital cost (purchase price).

He already swore an oath to uphold the US Constitution. How many times has he breached that to date? An Oath obviously means nothing to him.

UCP use of the NWC has yet to see a court challenge as it has been used to enforce unconstitutional laws. You can bet that court challenges will emerge if Canadian Rights and Freedoms have been taken away by use of the NWC. #ABpoli

Rural ridings in Alberta already have a distinct advantage over urban ridings! Fewer voters per MLA/MP in almost every case. Now Smith wants to further tip the scales to advantage rural constituencies as well as her own party. Population growth has been greater in urban areas too. Patently unfair!

I'd be looking for an injunction to be filed, post-haste. If the UCP insists on moving ahead with a devious plan to rejig constituencies in its own favour, & manages to call an election with those new boundaries, what happens if & when their actions are found to be unconstitutional? An annulment?

Lunty is suggesting that Justice Miller recommended redoing everything. As opposed to this: For all the reasons stated herein, the majority recommends the adoption of the majority report in its totality.

Lunty looks EXTREMELY uncomfortable having to defend the Gov't position on going back to the drawing board on AB electoral boundaries. Tries to stick to flimsy talking points. Won't come out any better when that position gets challenged in court, 'cause they're grasping at straws right now! #ABpoli

What part of "independent" is so offensive to the UCP Gov't and supporters and why? I read lots of troll-like comments, but they all miss the point that in Alberta/Canada, electoral boundaries have always beens set or adjusted in an unbiased manner. Evidently fairness is not in the UCP vocabulary.

Elections are about people choosing their representatives, not politicians choosing their voters. Yet that is what the UCP is planning. It is planning to deliberately disenfranchise urban voters. Red Deer and Lethbridge would not exist as autonomous political entities. Calgary/Edmonton hurt too.

I certainly hope that there will be serious court challenges to this UCP scheme. Starting with a request for an injunction to prevent the implementation of any UCP requested changes to constituency boundaries prior to the next Prov. Elxn. It may eventually find its way to the SCC for a ruling.

The thing with the UCP is that they have been flooding the zone for so long that I'm exhausted
We have to fight for clean water, education, on multiple healthcare fronts, to stop data centers, Alberta separation & that's just off the top of my head
When will the UCP work for regular Albertans
#ableg

6 days ago 49 18 9 5

I fear that they NEVER will work for "regular" Albertans. Bolstering the fortunes of the hands that feed them while making life more expensive and more difficult for the majority is what the UCP braintrust is all about. It's hard to have a healthy diet when we are forced to dine on word salad.

The three “I’s” of Danielle Smith (UCP) ideology & governance:
IGNORE- Tune out majority opinion & any opposition to policy.
IMPOSE- Force policy down the throats of the electorate irrespective of views of the populace.
INTIMIDATE- Threaten with lawsuits & punitive measures serious foes. #ABpoli

Thank-you Ron!! Totally enjoyed your performances of parts of Mr. Lightfoot's songbook last night, as did the whole audience. Interesting that in some cases you discovered his songs through other artists' recordings. Speaks to the incredible depth of his work and your own musical mining skills.
