those dreams will just keep coming true
no I don't, this is bonkers and great thankyou!
as *always* with *twfps*
as walkways with tarps?
thankyou!!! yes it was!!!!! he is such a cool, as he would say, cat.
That’s what punk is all about if you ask me - community, seeing everyone as artists, making creativity accessible, not putting music and music-making on a pedestal.
you can listen to the whole show here (as walkways with tarps it starts with an excerpt of Coltrane): www.twfps.com/past-episode...
7: this is most mind-blowing one to me - the idea that Mike Watt could bring his creativity to bear on the way he arranges our songs amongst others in his show, that he treats us as peers in some way.
6: it’s true, we did send him a buttload of songs
5: Watt and Jenny discuss the importance of prac pads
4: Watt comparing our song ‘Steve Lamacq Wants To Know’ to the minutemen song ‘Political Song For Michael Jackson To Sing’
3: Watt’s explanation of Pete’s transition from drums to bass
2: Watt’s BB King Story (after we’d told him seeing BB King was our first gig)
1: “using the internet for good, not spreading lies and hate” (sharing song ideas)
a couple of weeks ago we had the immense pleasure and privilege of talking to one of our biggest influences and role models Mike Watt, bass player with minutemen, firehose, mssv, il sogno del marinaio, composer of three operas etc etc. below are some highlights from our conversation:
Thankyou 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks to @ianhanham.bsky.social for his always brilliant live photos, and our dad for the photo of a canal somewhere in Warwickshire circa 1990 (we think).
Thanks so much to everyone who worked on the album: @genteelblackhole.bsky.social , The Sound Carriers (James, Harriet, Sian and Aiden), Adam Sowiński, Matty King, Antony at @redredpaw.bsky.social mobineko who pressed the vinyl, and of course Aiden and Rich at @divineschism.bsky.social
We made a thing! Our records have arrived, come grab yourself a piece of Lucy Leave lucyleave.bandcamp.com/album/feelin...
MUSIC POST: I am once again IMPLORING you to listen to this very good band. They're local to us and close to our hearts and I'm on my billionth listen of their new 26(!) song album and it's remarkable x
thanks so much!! ❤️❤️❤️
‘Open Up’
The riff is an imitation of Deerhoof’s ‘Buck And Judy’, and the guitar here is the only element left of the original (re-)recording. Seemingly we have to digest things many times, mushing everything together, before it comes out ‘100% non-embarrassing’ (Greg Saunier’s phrase).
‘Practice Our Guitars’
A slogan song, like if Minutemen sang nursery rhymes. The counter-melody is sung by another brilliant collaborator, the singer-songwriter and founder of Bug Prentice, Ally Craig. The ‘solo’ at the end is a rip-off of one of our earlier songs.
eg ‘Feelings Explorer’
The seed of the album — the idea of being adventurous without leaving your own head, the comfort and the trap of domesticity, contrasted with the dreams of youth. In common with many of the songs, the music was rewritten several times — it’s a cut-and-shut of different ideas
