Do I know anyone who works with Swift at @nytimes.com? Especially someone who works with the GitHub org `nytimes`. I'm having an issue adding one of your packages to Swift Package Index. Could you drop me an email at contact@swiftpackageindex.com and I'll send details.

My client office is in Palo Alto so have been eating and hanging out in the few places open in Los Altos. Just got an uber into Mountain View, dang wish someone told me about this place at the start of the trip!
Wow cyber trucks look even weirder IRL. I guess they make a statement ….
Nice to have the quick charge as an option, but slower charging is better for the battery longterm.
In SF for the week, so nice to escape the uk weather !
Not sure what’s happened with safari recently on Mac, starting to see it regularly eat up all my ram. Routinely using up 14gb. Not doing anything other than have about half a dozen tabs open
Come say hi!
In #SwiftUI we have a convenient way to set a view's background to a shape, like a capsule or rounded rectangle, using the background(_:in:) modifier.
This works great when we need to place a single shape behind a view: nilcoalescing.com/blog/SetASha...
Damn it, just got engagement farmed by a ‘I was interviewing a guy and he was clearly using copy paste for his answers’ on threads
This post gave me instant anxiety 😆
Can’t imagine how daunting that would be now with all the hoops you have to jump through in interviews
If you know anyone who recently got their first iOS dev job and you think they might be interested in sharing their story with @iosdevhappyhour.com could you let me know?
It's challenging to find those people now!
Happy most productive week of the year to anyone working for a US company outside of the US
Happy no merge conflict week 😂
Xcode correctly wrote all the code for implementation after adding a few variables 👏
Unfortunately for the next part of the interview the it almost seemed over confident and wrote lots of suggested code when given little detail. None of it was what was needed
Some great potential in this
Xcode AI auto complete in an interview scenario is bot a blessing and a curse.
I was given an absurd ‘real world problem’ and had to come up with a solution using a playground. I opted to use models and descriptive functions as part of talking through my approach.
When it came to implementing ..
I would love to see an overhaul of TVos, it’s a great simple interface, but I would love to see some API’s and frameworks that would make devs want to make apps for it (other than streaming)
Reminds me of Facebook. First it was notifications when your friends tagged you. Then when a friend posted something. Then it was just when anyone posted
SwiftUI environment makes it easy to pass data down the view hierarchy. I have a post that covers how to work with it, including reading and setting values, defining custom keys, using it with Observable.
If you’re working with #SwiftUI, you might find it helpful: nilcoalescing.com/blog/SwiftUI...
Lets see if this site is a great at finding talented developers as that dead bird site used to be.
We're hiring in Cupertino, San Diego, Seattle and Vancouver BC for a bunch of different roles.

Aces, I was a little sceptical about getting these, but I absolutely love them. They seem way more consistent and connected than a lot of other smart lighting I have tried. Just wish there were more options from HomeKit
Sorted 😂
We were able to have a frank discussion about the process and I felt the team took my feedback very seriously. Hopefully no one else will have to go through that as a result
But man, what a bummer !
One of the interviewers asked ‘what are you thinking?’
I replied ‘I think this process isn’t working for me’
Both interviewers appeared shocked
The beloved the process was going well, but would have liked to have seen more TDD.
After 2.5 hours I was pretty stressed about not making enough progress to have something to present. I hit a bug with a test failing, simple rounding issue but being stressed, I would have normally just googled the solution if I was stuck. But in a pair assessment I felt I couldn’t do that
Unfortunately the more the pairing session went on the more it just became two devs offering sitting in silence with the occasional nudge on TDD.
Then into pairing. The devs were super focused on TDD, however my mind was completely on getting something to present to the product owner in a couple of hours, plus the huge gotcha issue that I hadn’t event considered a solution for.
Being in a redundancy situation I decided to peruse anyways, the role and the team seemed really good.
The interview started with the product owner stating the problem. Multi stage discount with some additional complexities and a gotcha
Straight into writing stories, didn’t get time to finish
Had the worst interview yesterday, Staff engineer role, 3rd round. They pitched it as a sample sprint in a day. Meet the team, discuss a problem, write stories, pair, present results.
This already seemed like a lot both in terms of time commitment (~5 hours) and steps/work.
Me, I found mastodon a little clunky and threads just full of engagement bait. Bsky seems to have a lot of the iOS crowd from twitter (before the fall)
