I Will Never Respect A Website If you like this piece and want to support my independent reporting and analysis, why not subscribe to my premium newsletter? It’s $70 a year, or $7 a month, and in return you get a weekly newsletter...

Today's free newsletter is about the dangers of treating AI as being more than it is - a website or app built on expensive technology, with dubious reliability and inherently unsustainable economics.

The rhetoric from AI labs has to change.

Every trans person I know has added substantially more to my life than this indolent, decrepit POS.

Let trans kids be kids and transition. Let non-binary or gender non-conforming kids exist however they want. Life is too fucking hard to crave this vindictive, baseless cruelty,

Dialect : Full Serpent - Treble Andrew PM Hunt's electronic project continues to explore a playful patchwork of samples

As an extension of his past album, Dialect hones in on immediate soundscapes echoing in vivid strokes. Carrying sonic relics from the past and then building upon them in the present. A delightfully concise set of songs.

Plash: i live alone review - captivating ear for melody and depth Plash have introduced themselves with a captivating ear for melody and an eye for introspective depth. i live alone never loses traction, always reaching the skies with gusto and optimism.

In living life, Plash questions what it means to live, a vivid arc painted with evocative math rock juggled across two languages. It wrestles while keeping its head high, rendering a stirring quality.

Honestly, an AOTY contender!

In venturing towards softer, rounder americana, Courtney Marie Andrews successfully infuses the most warmth across her newest project. Immersing her entire heart across modes of ache and yearning, emotions sounding bigger than ever.

Hemlocke Springs: the apple under the tree review - pop blend The apple tree under the sea acts as an affirming step for Hemlocke Springs. It's an adventurous blend of pop across various decades, with a journey that only unleashes courageous swerves rather than ...

Since her EP, Hemlocke Springs has only pushed herself to explore deeper depths. Through her debut album, she did just that. Utilizing conceptual storytelling to expand upon pop sounds and personal themes.

as my grad prof (i talk about this dude a lot lol, i loved this man) always said, the only thing a good critic owes a piece of art is to meet it where its at. unfortunately for a lot of people who don't understand criticsm, that basis can lead to anything from praise to a pan

Curiosity is an essential for any good bit of criticism. And what makes a great pan so satisfying to read is a clear curiosity matched with a ruthless investigatory instinct. When someone understands a work inside and out and despises it anyway, that‘s when hate can become a thing of beauty.

After 8 years recovering from burnout, @jopassed.bsky.social bounces back with a record musing those dim moments, all parsed through his collaborative and ecstatic tunes to date. It's not just a return to form, but also a great refinement.

After their 1st mixtape last year, Orteus isn't stopping just yet. On the 1st day of January, their 1st single for their 1st debut album comes in at a compounding blast. Brimming with pummeling digicore tones that put intrigue on what comes next.

Holly Tannen & Pete Cooper - Conversation with Death [USA, Folk](1979): An incredible, unsettling, and atmospheric interpretation of old Appalachian folk song (also known as 'Oh Death'). It really evokes the inherent darkness and dread of the song's theme.

Peaer - Doppelgänger - Northern Transmissions doppelgänger by peaer album review by Louis Pelingen for Northern Transmissions. The LP drops on January 16th via Tiny Engines

Sometimes, simplicity is not a bad thing, as long as the tunes are strong enough. @peaer.bsky.social's long-awaited return sure just did that. A pensive reflection of past & present, with melodic heft that sticks greatly.

Sassy 009: Dreamer+ review - new path Dreamer+ starts a new path for Sassy 009, finding both glories and pains along the way while experimenting with various sonic tapestries paired with a conceptual thematic essence.

Well, this sure is an intriguing dream. A debut album that delves into amorphous sounds & themings that Sassy 009 explores with its strides and flaws. At the very least, it tends to glow more rather than dull out.

I definitely felt the same way, oh my god.

I cannot exactly escape it all the way - being a critic really demands attention towards the digital world more than before - but oh my goodness, I may as well practice restraint so much more these days.
