Or if forced to. If owning a gasoline-powered car was prohibitively expensive, a way would be found. One person can’t create a transit system, though, so (we) move away. “I want to live somewhere where a car isn’t needed” was top of my list when I moved 400 miles to a city as a young adult.

Indiana is like that (outside of Indianapolis and university towns.) They won’t spend a penny on the public good.

But exurban and rural areas everywhere have minimal transit options. We’re a spread-out country. People can carpool but that means someone has a car.

My kid went to a small college in a small Indiana city (35,000 people.) There was no rideshare (no Uber or Lyft drivers. zero. 2019, pre-covid)

There was kind of a taxi - a phone number that got passed around. No busses. High poverty rate (poor whites). And this is a city!

"What if We Didn't Suck?" Kat Abughazaleh lost. What she built is what the Democratic Party is missing.

My newsletter today is about @katmabu.bsky.social's campaign.

Democrats keep asking how to reach voters who've given up on the party. Kat Abughazaleh spent a year trying to answer that question. She lost, but the answer is still right. www.readtpa.com/p/what-if-we...

David Boies, who (or whose firm) set spies on victims in both the Catch and Kill (Weinstein) and Bad Blood (Theranos) books, representing the villains in those stories?

I don't know a thing about the guy except whenever I see the name, it's on the wrong side and with the $$$$.

Hi, I just want to say a word in support of @meganwachspress.bsky.social. I heard from her this morning before she went public. I had not had a chance to respond yet because my father in law is in the hospital.

That seems to be exactly what they think! It's Tech Bro Calvinism, the Elect with a twist: wealth is proof of intelligence (subbed in for virtue), and the eternal reward is - Mars, I guess? (subbed in for heaven).

👀The federal judges in West Virginia, where ICE has been pulling over and detaining people on the freeway, are literally screaming about ICE's tactics.

"It is an assault on the constitutional order," Judge Goodwin says. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

It’s a challenge! And opportunity to keep them busy. May take a while to list 100 million of us.

Add me to your list, DHS: FUCK ICE & CBP. Accountability NOW!

Are laws against drunk driving authoritarian? i’m sure you meant that hyperbolically but since you mention it: that measles vaccines are not required shocks me senseless.

James Van Der Beek, star of Dawson’s Creek, dies aged 48 Actor who also starred in Varsity Blues and Rules of Attraction revealed in 2024 he had been diagnosed with cancer

The obit in The Guardian is even more heartbreaking, because it shows the financial burden that occupied the short amount of time he and his family had. Stupid, broken US healthcare system.

And yet in opinion surveys people still say they trust R’s more on economics.

I just - the historical record isn’t hidden. Propaganda doesn’t even have to try that hard. Humans just raise their hands eagerly to be deceived and abused.

Like foreign students have been subsidizing our universities, especially our state schools ==> US students. Like 💰⬆️🧊was stolen from our health care.

Cause and effect. 1. They do thing. 2. Thing hurts America. 3. Go to 1, repeat until stopped.
Conclusion: their goal was always to hurt America.

Not just that, he married her. Either didn’t notice or didn’t care that she’s batshit nuts. How can we trust this guy with anything that requires good judgment?

also, the fund would pay for 1. doors broken down and windows (cars, houses) ICE breaks. 2. Medical and death benefits for their victims. 3. long-term medical needs of teargassed minors. 4. mental health care for kids and other trauma victims. 5. legal $ for people they frivolously charge.

Establish an escrow fund using some of the excessive ICE budget. Reimburse cities occupied by their militias for: 1. additional police presence 2. economic loss due to closed business and shopping areas people are afraid to enter. 3. sales tax loss. Per diem payment, no application. For

New Mexico Senate approves bill to ban ICE detention centers The New Mexico Legislature approved the Immigration Safety Act. House bill 9 bars the state from allowing ICE detention centers.

This is another effort that has taken a HUGE amount of local activism, led by community folks who care.

It CAN be done. Get involved where you live and push back.

Martinez: "[I] sat in federal court and watched from 20 feet away as the border patrol agent who attempted to kill me testified at a hearing. Agent Charles Exum—Charles Exum, my attempted executioner was Charles Exum—I hope the government does not consider my use of his name here to be...doxxing."

And yes, ABOLISH these agencies. Fire them all, allot a tiny percentage of the budget they have now, and start over. Use the extra to reimburse cities and states. End contracts with every private detention firm.

We are incandescent with anger. And you are infuriatingly flaccid and placid.

Every traumatized child: mental health care. Every teargassed minor: access to a lifetime fund for future health needs. A fund to automatically pay $$$ to those injured, blinded, shot. Death benefits to families, automatic. NO pensions or health care for any ICE or CBP employee. . . . .

No, we want to live our lives without having our peaceful neighborhoods occupied by unaccountable armed thugs. We want jail time.

We want CPB and ICE to immediately establish a fund to pay legal fees, repair windows, pay medical bills for every person on every block they attack. And . .

(2j use your TV, playstation, bed, won‘t leave: that means an armed gang is occupying your house, AND it’s theft.

If a resident can’t get fire or paramedic services because ICE is occupying THEIR firehouse and threatening anyone who objects, that‘s theft too.

This statement uses the phrases property twice. The statement from Assemblyman Phil Ramos also references “public property” more than once. No one said “using infrastructure,” and the poster didn’t change anything, or stoop, or use propaganda.
