🔍 Together with the amazing @dropsmops.bsky.social and Sarah Davies, I'm organizing a workshop on boundaries & boundary concepts in datafication. Please see our flyer below for more details.

I haven't read it yet but Karen Hao's Empire of AI seems to be a great read for students. Some contemporary Sci-Fi that works for students: Ishigiro's Klara and the Sun, Martha Wells' Murderbot and Chambers' Monk and Robot or Wayfarer series have all fantastic reflections of human-AI relationships
Matteo Pasquinelli's The Eye of the Master (cultural history) and Antonio Cassilli's Waiting for Robots (empirical) explore the socio-material ideologies of AI through labor relations. I also like James Bridle Way of Being for its artistic reflection of AI and connection to the more-than-human.

Remember when academic publishers signed multi-million dollar AI training data deals with big tech and promised great AI-driven transformations to publishing services from looting academic work without notice or consent?
Here's how that's going.
This is inaccurate. There is no known vulnerability with Signal's core tech. The memo was discussing phishing attempts, which Signal has worked to mitigate. And it was hastily reported.
It's important not to spread misinfo that can confuse people into moving away from meaningfully private comms.

I am hiring a postdoc! Excellent research support, minimal teaching load, and an overall wonderful set up. The research focus is flexible as long as some part of your practice involves critical making or hands-on research in some form. (1/3)

Obviously, all this has downsides to the life and development in both countries. But at least, those who have to travel by land are not treated as 2nd-class Europeans at borders anymore. Yet, the borders will continue to live on in people's heads. This can't be resolved by signing an agreement.
Happy to read this today. Long overdue and a small success towards reuniting Europe! 🇪🇺Europe's social life and economy depends so much on Bulgarians and Romanians working and living abroad for whom car mobililty is a necessity rather than choice. This reduces a little their depriviliging. (1/2)
Have you got a screenshot of an encounter with AI which is unsettling, strange, surprising, laughable or troubling? Still time to submit to our call for screenshots! A selection will be featured in an online publication and workshop. Deadline end of 10th Dec (any time zone): troubling-ai.glitch.me
