What a pathetic response.

Every other leader got a clearance. The information obtained in a clearance never becomes public.

Why can't they just say he cannot get one. Period. It is the only reason he doesn't have one.

By-elections results

By-elections results

The Liberals won all three of the by-elections last night, securing a majority. And it wasnt even close. These are the latest results this morning. The Bloc got nearly 3x more votes in the one riding they ran in than the Cons got in all three combined. There's no way the Cons can spin this as a win!

Id love to know how having a PhD in Economics from Oxford, running two central banks of G7 countries would make you uneducated on economics. I mean, this is contrasted with PP taking 11 years to get a 4 year BA in International Relations (not economics!)

PP needs to spend less time talking about democracy. He clearly does not care about the will of the people. He LOST the last election and he LOST his own seat that he had for 20 years. His constituents didnt want him. So he booted an elected MP in AB from their seat so he could have a safe seat.

Like backroom deals to have an MP elected in Alberta resign so that PP could run in that riding because the voters in his riding of 20 years overwhelmingly voted against him?

Oh wait, that is worse.

But it's pretty hypocritical of PP to use democracy arguments when he lost the election and his own seat, in a free and fair election, and yet he is still leader and still there!

I get that they are writing for a domestic audience, but as a newspaper you should be able to use the correct Canadian term when talking about Canada.

It would be kind of be like NYT calling Carney President, bc US doesn't have a Prime Minister.

Id like PP to explain how holding a PhD in Economics from Oxford. PP meanwhile, took 11 years to complete a 4 year BA.

Honestly I don't think this changes anything. Just takes away the threat of an election. Given recent polling, where if an election were held now the Cons would be lucky to get 50 seats, and the NDP literally just got a new leader, an election threat wasnt that serious.

I get the message but surely the NYT can report facts. We don't have "special elections". We had by-elections. Proper terms matter.

Im very curious on what "had to do Red Cross" means. Anyone?

1 week ago 3 0 1 0

I think that's true

I was just contrasting with the US where pardons seem randomly granted, while people are still serving sentences & get a literal free pass

They are harder to get in Canada and you get them only after you have served your sentence and then a several years waiting period

What is a record suspension? - Canada.ca What is a record suspension?

It is a record suspension. It is not necessarily permanent and depending on the offence it can still be flagged in the CPIC.

Plus in Canada it's only a record suspension. If I understand correctly, If you are caught breaking the law the can add it back.

Plus, if it's a serious offence you have to wait 10 years to even apply, and there are no guarantees

Why should a president be able to pardon anyone. If law is a separate branch, why not respect the decision of the courts.

At most a pardon should clear minor offenses off a criminal record, after punishment has been served.

It really is the most bizarre thing.

In Canada, you can only get a pardon for minor offenses, after you have served your sentence and been a good citizen out of trouble for a time. A pardon clears your criminal record... it doesn't clear the punishment.

And pre-emptive pardons at that!

He is not even waiting for them to be charged, that is how corrupt he and his crew is. They already know they are guilty.

The US is really, really trying to go back to the 1800s.

Isn't Hungary the poorest nation in Europe? And Orban has been in for a really long time.

How is this not election interference? Promising to put money into Hungary's economy, but only if Orban wins.

Of course, anyone paying attention knows that trump never follows through and honors his word.

and him using democracy as an argument when he lost his an seat is quite special. How democratic is it to lose and force someone to resign so you can have another chance in a riding you dont even live there?

1 week ago 1 0 0 0

Do please explain how Vance campaigning for Viktor Orban is not foreign interference.

Imagine if Macron, Starmer, the Pope, came to the US to campaign for the Democratic candidate the week before an election. How would the US react to that?

Men have never been held to the same standard.

If Hilary Clinton has been married 3 times, cheated on all her spouses and had 5 kids with 3 different men, the attacks would be brutal. But with trump... nothing

And, the only person facing consequences for Epstein... a woman.

Trump will unleash nothing.

Iran is going to call his bluff.

Then trump is going to lie and say last minute negotiations are going well.

And the US media, and Maga, will believe him.

Then he will make another threat, manipulate the market and make more $. It is after all, all about $

Since the attack on Iran was not a defensive action, NATO has no role.

If he thought alliances were so important, maybe he shouldn't have threatened his allies with economic ruin, threatened to take over a few, and maybe coordinated, or at least informed his allies of his plans.

Exactly. I feel like the cognitive decline argument is making excuses for him.

He was always a vile, racist, misogynist, exploiter, fraudster, evil, full-on hatred, rapist/sexual predator.

It's arrogance that we are seeing now because he believes he is untouchable.

Can we call it what it is - extortion. The US is not a partner, it's trying to extort what it wants with threats - and people are dying bc of US.

Not to sound like bragging but I am so proud of my Canadian PM, for everything he has done.

But in fairness, Carney's message isnt extraordinary. It's human and what normal leaders say. The issue is its contrasted against whatever trump is - racist, misogynistic, hateful, evil.

There seems to be no line too far for trump to cross.

Removing trump, while just a good idea, will not instantly cleanse the US. There are many who support what he is doing. That is why he is still there.
