Record #4 from the Record Store Day purchases, the Funny Girl soundtrack with Barbara Streisand and Omar Sharif. Is any record collection complete without having Barbara singing "Don't Rain on My Parade"?

Does Susie Wiles not think she, Melania, or Karoline Leavitt should show up for these photo ops, does she not know how it looks, or is it the look she's happy with?

Is Ted Cruz there because of his transphobia or because the White House believes he's a Senator from Georgia?

TIL (or was reminded--I'm old) that in 1973, Tom Seaver was the first Cy Young award winner to not win 20 games in the season that they won the award.

Any Mets fan who didn't experience the 1977 through 1983 seasons is really missing out. I'm too young too remember the teams prior to 1969 but I get the sense there was some hope in the later of the founding period.

I feel that the
mere existence of many of us is the source of their discontentment. It's reminiscent of the Samuel L. Jackson character in Kingsman trying to kill off most common folks so he and his wealthy friends can better enjoy the earth (not that climate change would motivate this crew).

@rogercormier.bsky.social On Seaver, after the 1970 or 1973 season, I remember reading that "Only the Mets could deny Tom Seaver a 20 win season". I think it was in The Sporting News or Sport magazine. I guess I take some solace in this always being a Mets thing.

For me, this always felt the the "Stearns is too Brewers pilled" move, although in theory (non-Diaz objects in elbow edition) I would feel differently if Williams was mainly the 8th inning/early leverage guy.

@rogercormier.bsky.social A lot to unpack today but in some ways not really? The offense still stalled out, the starters both don't go long enough and the manager consistently leaves them in a few batters too long, and closers can be fickle at the worst moments.

Is that exactly a 12 game losing streak, so if the Mets lose tonight there's still a chance? ๐Ÿ˜‚

In most situations, there is no such thing as too much bacon but a BLT does have exacting proportions. Mustard?!?! Frightening. At least he didn't offer you pickles.

The 3rd Record Store Day selection is "Breezin'" by George Benson. I bought my first real stereo in 1977 and Masquerade was the song they used in the stereo store to sound out the system. I still miss my Harman Kardon 330C stereo receiver.

The 2nd Record Store Day selection being played today is Oscar Peterson at JATP (Jazz at the Philharmonic). Herb Ellis on guitar and Ray Brown on bass are also featured. This is a 1966 release featuring music recorded in 1953 and 1954 and previously released as part of the JATP series.

Yes! The green and the glasses appeared on several album covers.

The album cover for the 1973 album "Looking Thru" by the German fusion jazz band Passport. It shows a person with green skin and blonde hair with water in the background. The person
has removed their glasses and you can look thru them to see the water and horizon.

Perhaps the most 1973 album cover ever.

I'm going through the albums I bought on Record Store Day on Saturday. First up is "Looking Thru", a 1973 Kraut Jazz record from the band Passport. I like fusion jazz a lot but I may have bought it just for the cover art.

I've anecdotally felt the same way about players changing leagues, although with the more balanced schedule I could see that being less of a factor than it may have been in the past. Maybe it's more the upsetting of routines and dealing with major life changes.

Can the New-Look Mets Defy Decades of Hot Stove History? Does winning the winter portend a disappointing season? After drastically reconstructing their roster, the New York Mets are trying to defy a bunch of bad precedents.

@rogercormier.bsky.social On the Mets not gelling, I recall a Ben Lindbergh piece on the performance of teams with big offseason turnover. The article doesn't address it but it seems logical that the (needed) turnover in the coaching staff may also be a factor. www.theringer.com/2026/01/28/m...

I'd settle for buds that stay in my ears through the slightest movement. Of course, that could be a me problem.

I did not know that a goose could eye you with bad intent. Now I am 100% certain they can.

Great album and as one of my first CDs, I loved the "Attention CD listeners" part.

Is that a red bellied woodpecker or something more native to Texas and its surroundings that looks similar? In any case, spectacular.

I feel the same way about the Mets continuing to bring Jose Reyes back for team events.
