1,935 days after my first tutorial as a student, I found myself on the other side of the table for the first time today, delivering a tutorial at Worcester College.

I had a very enjoyable time at #ASABWinter2025 and was delighted to present a poster on my work on bird visual fields! Thanks to the organisers @asab-meetings.bsky.social for a sociable and useful few days.

Nice to welcome my new DPhil students with an evening at St Hugh’s College. Welcome Gayatri Kumar, @smthmpsn.bsky.social and @ghtrabin.bsky.social. The White Stork was not part of the formal evening, but I was pleased to see it and grab a photo earlier in the week.

My first go at a pigeon release. Just 10 mins and they’ll be back home.

I like to tell myself they won’t take off unless I give them a verbal instruction. The jury’s still out on whether or not that’s true…

Thanks @ghtrabin.bsky.social for showing me the ropes!

Always delighted to be invited to the @btobirds.bsky.social Marsh Awards reception at the Society of Wildlife Artists Natural Eye exhibition. Great to catch up with everything the BTO Youth Advisory Panel has been up to too, having been an alumnus of the panel for the last year.

It was a privilege to spend last week in (stunning!) Shetland with this great team, helping find out about Gannet vision and the black eyes of Gannet bird flu survivors.
