Black and white photo of Marjane Satrapi with the quote:

"The world is not divided between East and West. You are American. I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same."

If you have the means, please donate to the Trans Continental Pipeline right now. They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate and they are overwhelmed with requests. Colorado borders Kansas, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

Democratizing the arts looks like universal income, low-barrier grants for both emerging and working artists, well-funded municipal arts & recreation programs, vibrant third spaces, and a well-funded public school system with progressive curriculum.

Not a free pass for corporate-owned slop engines.

“I live on a rural island in Alaska, reachable only by plane or boat. In our little town, 50 to 100 people stand outside each week at our town's roundabout to protest and hold vigil and stand in solidarity with you. We hold signs supporting Minnesota and demanding ICE Out.”

oldhead advice from an oldhead.

every couple years, newcomers to the movement think "THIS is finally it, the moment when the dam breaks and the whole system is overthrown"

and when it doesn't happen they lose patience and get disillusioned and drop out of movement work

gotta build for long term

HEY PUBLISHERS: pay attention to this entire thread; and recognize that a HUGE part of the problem is assigning comics projects to editors with no comics knowledge or experience. Editing comics is a discrete discipline, and when you don't recognize that, you fuck both creators and yourself over.

I wish I'd thought sooner to explain to tradpub editors that illustrating a graphic novel is not like writing a prose novel or illustrating a picture book, a 250-page GN is actually like illustrating eight picture books.

They speak of justice while ruling through fear.
They speak of sovereignty while stealing the vote.
They speak of dignity while condemning their own people.
I learned that those who insist the most on calling themselves "the good ones" are often the ones most afraid to face themselves. The Maduro regime wraps itself in flags, in anti-imperialist rhetoric, in a false epic where any criticism is labeled as betrayal. They claim to defend Venezuela, yet they stole the people's voice when they refused to respect the elections. That act alone strips away any moral authority.
But do not be mistaken. The fact that a tyrant is real does not automatically turn an external aggressor into a savior.
The United States does not act out of love for democracy. It acts out of interest. It always has.
The language changes, the enemy changes, but the method remains the same: pressure, punishment, displays of power. And as always, the blow is not absorbed by those in power, but by ordinary people.

The Venezuelan people are trapped between two narratives that do not represent them. One that oppresses them from within, and another that exploits them from outside. One that claims legitimacy without real elections. Another that claims justice without taking responsibility for the human consequences of its actions.
I do not defend Maduro. I point at him.
But I also refuse to accept that a global power can appoint itself as a moral judge while its history is written in interventions, sanctions, and broken countries.
Pain does not need propaganda. Hunger does not understand geopolitics. Dignity is not imposed with missiles, nor with dictatorships.
While some sell themselves as the good ones to justify repression, and others sell themselves as the good ones to justify aggression, the result is always the same: more suffering, more rage, more generations learning that force replaces justice.
And once again, pain is inherited.

A very long and important THREAD -

The real reason the US is invading Venezuela goes back to a deal Henry Kissinger made with Saudi Arabia in 1974.

And I'm going to explain why this is actually about the SURVIVAL of the US dollar itself.

Not drugs. Not terrorism. Not "democracy." 1/

Opinion: A student's perspective on the removal of inclusive literature - Concord Monitor The removal of 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' from a high school curriculum sparks debate on the importance of including LGBTQ+ experiences in education.

"I am open with my sexuality to anyone who asks in the hallways of Merrimack Valley, which leads me to wonder: Should I be removed from the school if parents find the topics I speak about inappropriate?"

Whew, this teen's editorial is GREAT.

screenshot of a post on facebook from Alex Lamoreaux, depicting two versions of the "same" photograph of a bobcat in front of a pine plantation, one labeled original game cam photo, one labeling AI processed

the markings have been altered on the AI photo, and the head changed and resized

text says:

Oh! A neat goose hybrid posted to ‘What’s this Bird?’ but when you zoom in on the photos the bill details have been too manipulated by AI photo editing to be accurately assessed for which species may be involved.
Scroll on… A cool-looking Red-tailed Hawk that someone is wondering which subspecies it might be - right up my alley! But when you zoom in on the photos literally every feather group has been so heavily manipulated and altered by AI editing that it’s impossible to determine subspecies because the photo is essentially fake now; just a mashup of whatever AI thinks parts of a Red-tail should look like.
Scroll on… WOW! That’s a remarkable trail cam photo of a Bobcat! It almost looks like a painting!… but the head looks oddly small…. hmmmm. After some prodding the original photo is produced and sure enough it had been so heavily altered by AI ‘post processing’ that the photo posted was essentially a digital mock-up with totally different proportions and fur markings. No longer the photo off the trail cam; it may as well have just been ‘created’ by AI from scratch.
This stuff is killing me. My days on social media are becoming very limited. We can’t even trust simple, everyday photos of animals to be real. The wildlife community needs to quit editing with AI, and we need to start calling out photographers that are using it. Our reality is being destroyed all around us.

this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

Gen-Zine: DIY publications find new life as form of resistance against Trump

"There’s a freedom people are craving because they’re feeling so constrained, surveilled and, frankly, threatened in so many other spheres."

Zines have made a resurgence as communities seek to share information on everything from ICE raids to local elections.
