#DC! Please join me, @betsyfischermartin.bsky.social + @lwvdc.bsky.social for an URGENT conversation about the legacy of Jeannette Rankin + women's leadership in American democracy. Women have always - and will always -make the difference.
Today, February 27th, marks the 225th year of our disenfranchisement — the day that the 1801 Organic Act was passed and Congress took over the governing of DC, effectively recolonizing its residents. #dcstatehood #statehood #dc #dchistory #congress
DC’s Attorney General confirms what we already knew: the bill DC Council passed in December to keep local taxes stable and predictable is now law.
This is great news for all DC tax filers, and everyone who depends on the programs and services DC’s local tax dollars make possible.
NEWS: the DC Council has proclaimed that the “D.C. Income and Franchise Tax Conformity and Revision Temporary Amendment Act of 2025” is now officially law (L26-89), effective through Sept. 25, 2026! Regardless of how the Senate votes today, the 30-day review period ended Feb. 11!
Photos of Senator Lisa Murkowski and Senator Susan Collins sitting and speaking at the dais. Text reads: "S.J.Rs 102 is Anti-family, pro-Trump, and fiscally irresponsible. Attacking DC's local budget would hurt DC families while advancing Trump's agenda. Tell Senators this week to VOTE NO on S.J.Res 102. FreeDCproject.org/money"
Tomorrow the Senate is expected to vote on a bill aimed at interfering in DC's local tax code.
This move would thrust DC into financial chaos, hurting families and helping an administration that we know thrives on confusion and fear.

🚨 Tomorrow: Congress votes to override DC’s budget 🚨
$224M at risk for schools, public safety, and tax credits—without DC having a vote.
States control their revenue. DC doesn’t.
