The original Keep on the Borderlands was very much a sandbox: there's no overarching plot, just various encounters. More of a feature than a bug, IMO.

Whether the components make up for this lack for new DMs is good question, however.

Absolutely! He was just a punk kid in '77, so everyone worked around him. In '99, he's "THE" George Lucas, and no one wants to cross him.

TBF, the technical leaps that Lucasfilm made wouldn't be possible w/o him, but he's a bad director for actors.

Hot Take: if the prequels had a director who knew how to treat actors and was a hell of a lot less racist, they would have surpassed the originals for decades.
