Dusted off some code from a few years ago to stitch together a time lapse, was fun to see it mostly work as-is. Also, evidence the cucamelon seedlings are total aliens 🌱

so this question has come up in conversation recently: obviously, bluesky has features that allow you to disable interactions like replies and quote posts. but is doing so contrary to the spirit of social media? is it antisocial behavior? maybe even unethical? interested to hear everyone's thoughts

Are video uploads now part of the API? That's possibly the only thing I think I'll need soon that I didn't see in the docs.

It's a long weekend here so I've been heads down putting some seeds in dirt as well as reviving the hack project I started back in 2023. growing.shiftkey.online is where this all lives now, and I plan to start scheduled posting to @growing.shiftkey.online once there are signs of life on the mat.

I Was Stoked To Collaborate With Dan McQuade A couple days ago, I heard the terrible news that the writer Dan McQuade passed away. I’ve read some great tributes to him from people…

In memory of the great writer Dan McQuade, I wrote about how we spent about fifteen years sending each other really stupid press release quotes. I'll miss him.

PSA: there’s been an exploit for Signal and WhatsApp released that can be used to silently track you.

Temp fixes for both can be done in your settings:

For WhatsApp: Settings>Privacy>Advanced>Block unknown messages.

For Signal: Settings>Privacy>Phone number>Who can find me by number>Nobody

Some of the numbers in here are wild. “45% of AI generated code has exploitable [security] flaws.”

And this is a massive, looming problem that I’ve talked about a lot: “Without juniors gaining real experience, where will the next generation of senior engineers come from?”

I haven’t. But I did try to see if I could downgrade my plan from Starter to Free that was mentioned on the billing site and that part of my admin site seems to be “read-only”. I can poke again later when I have some energy to try again.

Ultimately this is just a quality of life feature for myself (staging branches to be able to review external contributions easier) but as a long time @netlify.com OSS fan I think I'm just going to stop if I can't control the billing side of things for this side project
