"And now we are at full-on crisis level, with not more elasticity in the system left, and our teams fully burnt out so there's no more "go that extra mile" left." #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli

I admitted the man that Friday night. He got a warm bed & a few days of safety, while s/o with a psychiatric emergency may not have had a bed at all

I’m not sure it was medicine

It may have been compensation. It may have been enabling

I think it’s worth asking whether there’s a difference #bcpoli

Unfortunately this thread is too true.

It's satire, but with *just* the right amount of realism to give you chills. This is not how healthcare should be in Canada (or in the rest of the world either, IMO)

Seems like our "fiscally conservative" govt's plan for HC is just to have Employees AND Employers pay more out of pocket every month!

Retail and manufacturing: it can be from 20-50% of NET PROFIT!!!

And these costs to BUSINESSES are only GROWING as workers live longer with very complex illnesses!

Btw, another key point no one is talking about: what do all the AB business owners think about having to spend their profits to provide employees with some insurance coverage?

Small to mid size businesses in the US spend 5-12% of their revenue on employee HC insurance

I don't know if ABs should laugh or cry at this "satire"... it's so close to the truth it's almost hard to call it satire!!!

One part it is missing is a bottom row:

Is Govt gonna sell to ABs that the guardrails will come, but then never actually create them? (Like they have done with CSFs 6 years in!!!)

Or does the govt not intend to come up with the magical regulations that will somehow protect an under resourced Public HC system being threatened by robbing more human resources from it???...

It's laughable. Will they have the Department of Red Tape Reduction be the department to create the red tape to apply to enforce and police the regulations?...

Poll suggests appetite for more private health care; ER doc says it’s not the way More than half of those who responded to a new poll said they wanted “greater access to health-care services supplied by independent providers.”

IRONY: govt says it dislikes bloated bureaucracy hires shadow bureaucrats to tell them build a whole new private stream, that will need "regulations" and more bureaucrats to police the guardrails and regulations they are going to add to the system!

Taught them we could just do more...

Well the damn has broken.

ABs are dying due to Access Block, and at some point the govt is going to have act...

Unfortunately govt doesn't believe us when we plead for help... sadly we enabled them to ignore us for years...

Are Doctors Covering Up Government Failures? | The Tyee Our compassion and care offers patchwork fixes, but stalls action on structural problems.

thetyee.ca/Opinion/2...

"And every consequence we absorb is one the system never has to face."

We spent the last 15yrs in Alberta "absorbing" in our EDs and in our hospital wards and hallways... we let sequential govt's avoid Workforce and Capacity Planning...

Current plan: cherry-pick ONE PART of HC systems that has LESS private pay in their HC systems then we already have in CANADA, don't tell anyone that, and sit at their ivory-tower desks and put out polls loaded to get only ONE answer...

While our govt ignores our real-life provincial data and experts, they are infatuated with shadow bureaucrats who are selling them "in-theory" solutions that they cannot PROVE will work in OUR SYSTEM given its current state...

We don't have the nurses and the anesthesiologists to assist the surgeons in the pre/peri/post operative care... (we may have enough surgeons)...

and many are fleeing to the low acuity CSFs already (with no guardrails to ensure the public system is protected in any way)

Here's why they aren't showing this real life AB data and trends:

All are getting worse and going in the WRONG direction!

All are life-threatening surgeries that cannot be done in their "always better private" facilities

I didn't get a final rebuttal, but I do want to point out the irony of a consultant think-tank shadow bureaucrat, who hasn't been in our hospitals or provided direct pt care, suggesting we are "already prioritizing" life threatening conditions!

All of it.

As a med lab technologist who had to explain to my family doc why Vit D testing NEEDED to be removed from the test menu, I absolutely support this thread.

I can't help but think UCP has helped cause this by vilifying health care workers during COVID, and also attacking HCWs and their unions in their comments.

I would suggest that Smith is listening to MEI think tank because they are saying what she wants them to say

She's had an agenda to privatize our healthcare from day 1
Manipulating data to reach that goal is small potatoes to her
I wonder who funds MEI 🤔
