Steve Davit – “Cherry” Is it me, or is spring taking its grand old time getting its ass in gear? A cold day, a hot day, a freezing day. Sure, that's the nature of spring, I guess, but this year feels a little more tentative than others, which is why I'm glad Steve Davit released "Cherry" earlier this week. It's not a kick in the ass, which is what I think spring needs right about now, but it is a breath of fresh air. Given my own musical proclivities, I'm hearing a trippy, lo-fi echo of the Beatles' "Flying" from…

Marc Schuster – Pour One Out Our good friend and Jukebox Hero Marc Schuster has a new song out on AMS Radio! A haunting piano ballad titled "Pour One Out" featuring Kelly and Keri Kintner. I consider it to be one of Marc’s darkest songs. Depending on what work you are most familiar with of his, it’s easy to forget sometimes how good of a pianist he is. This stripped down tune is a chilling reminder. An ominous resonance throughout. And The Kintners contributions at bass and choir vocals Check out the song on The Kintners blog…

Estella Dawn – “Hometown” Estella Dawn has a unique way of crafting pop songs that lyrically just gut-punch you right in the emotions. That’s probably the best reasoning I can apply to explaining why I’m such a fan. Her latest single, “Hometown” is no exception, and after listening through for the first time I swiveled right over to Qobuz to buy it and add it to rotation on AMS Radio. Currently an artist based in San Diego, CA, Dawn reflects on “making it out” of her New Zealand hometown on the new single. The lyric, “oh I used to call that shit winning, but honestly I don’t even think about it now,” resonated with me deeply and my own love/hate relationship with my hometown.

Scot Sax and the Floor Models – “Waiting for My Moment” I'll tell you, man, sometimes I can barely shake the cobwebs out of my head. Coffee won't do it, so I take a shower. The shower won't do it, so I take a walk. Sometimes I even remember to get dressed between the shower and the walk. It's a mug's game, whatever that means. But then sometimes a song will cut through the haze, and "Waiting for My Moment" is that kind of song. It starts with a distorted guitar that sounds like a trumpet in an Ennio Morricone soundtrack -- drenched in the same delicious reverb that coats the gorgeous backing vocals haunting the entire track.

Rod Coleman / Groovebirds on Jukebox! Rod Coleman is a Pacific Northwest multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and recording artist who has been involved in many projects and solo releases over the years (Groovebirds, Navigate North, Organic Acid to name a few). He is a current member of The Groovebirds with Tracy Coleman and Phil Carroll, contributing drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals, and songwriting. His contributions help shape the band’s alternative and contemporary rock sound. However, a listen to the band reveals that each member typically writes and performs their own material - contributing to the band's overall collective sound. …

“Friday the 13th” by Olivia Miceli It's your lucky day. That's right, it may seem counterintuitive considering it's Friday the 13th. However, Olivia Miceli has a new single out that just-so-happens to be called "Friday the 13th," and it's one of our New Arrivals on AMS Radio! In additon to various "New Arrivals" play times, you will also find it in rotation during “Bandcamping." How fitting is it, on a day infamously associated with bad luck, to feature a song about heartbreak. Olivia Miceli is an artist who has developed what you could call a signature sound for heartbreak style ballads.

New Arrivals: Between Daze – “Burn For You” One of the newest songs on AMS Radio's "New Arrivals" is "Burn For You" by Baltimore, Maryland's Between Daze. The band, however, is not a recent addition to the station; their name may strike familiarity with you from other songs we have in rotation on "Indie Anarchy" and "Bandcamping" such as "BackYard" and "Shooting Star." Their sound casts a wide net within the Alternative Rock genre, navigating many spaces between Post-Punk and Pop Rock. This latest track resonated with me similarly to acts like The Cure and U2. Lyrically, the band describes the song as "a poignant exploration true love and the lengths one is willing to pursue it," and I think that is a great way to describe what I would call an emotional journey while listening to it.

New Music Alert: Brian Lambert – “Undressed” Brian Lambert (Denton, TX) has a new single coming out on March 24th, a cover of the song “Undressed” originally performed by Sombr. Lambert’s spin on the 2025 Alt Pop hit takes form as a synth and bass laden melancholy. One thing I like about his version in distinction to the original is the way the arrangement thins out during parts of the verses. The bass and drums in those parts do a great job of creating a familiar Alternative Rock style tension, hoisting the irresistible melody of the song into the spotlight.

DelCobras “Get Closer” (Jukebox Alert) Hey you! Yeah you. Come here, get a little closer... Philly Power Pop trio and Jukebox Heroes, DelCobras, have a new single dropping March 14th. That’s right, Pi Day. Proving once and for all that finding awesome new independent and underground music is as easy as pi(e). The new song is called “Get Closer” and it is an anthemic alt rocker with “Weezer-esque” moments. Not a far cry from the Power Pop sound you'd expect from the band to date, but there is an extra "punch" to it I am thinking might be in relation to their approach in production.

Bandcamping Schedule Updates I moved some show times around starting this week for AMS Radio. And a lot of the shuffling really only comes down to one big change: Fridays. Every Friday is a "Bandcamp Friday" now at AMS Radio. Historically time slots set aside for my Bandcamp collection have been titled "Bandcamping," and they still will be, but the run time for that playlist is now dedicated to all day Friday to align with the Bandcamp Friday concept. There will also be playlists for GetMusic.FM running a few times throughout the day.

Slip ~Ons – “Overtime” Some good ol' straightforward punk rock and roll is something that always sits well with me. Whether I'm feeling up or down, or just casually enjoying my morning coffee and gearing up for the day. Works for me in most scenarios. And I say that casting a wide net because in my view of things, "punk" can include all sorts of varied sub-genre elements like garage rock, hardcore, ska, and in case of today's blog, power-pop. The Vancouver based band, Slip~Ons, join the station's lineup with their latest single in support of their EP by the same name titled, "Overtime." Released by Scamindy Records on February 20th.

Polyvinyl on Jukebox! Polyvinyl (Newcastle, UK) are the newest Jukebox Heroes on AMS Radio! And I am admittedly a bit star struck by it. They sent over a couple submissions earlier this week, "Running From Home" and "Underground Girl" and it was instant fandom for me. They have elements of Alternative Rock, Post-Punk, Emo, Pop Punk ... lots of things going on in their sound. I am going to take the opportunity to be bold here and say that if you were on the fence for whatever reason about starting a Jukebox collection, Polyvinyl is going to present a very strong case for you to take the plunge.

Listener Points! As mentioned in a recent "news and updates" post, we're piloting a "listener loyalty" program on the station this month. All the technical stuff is done and in place now. It's on to the fun stuff. Every month I'll be breaking down points into 3 "tiers." Each tier will have its own set of listener rewards. What are the rewards? To be continued... suggest some to me! What I have in mind right now are obviously stars and tokens for Jukebox, and I quite fancy the idea of sending "

The Unfamiliars? With a Question Mark "Bottles" is the latest single by The Unfamiliars? That's not a question that's a statement. I'll follow that up with another statement, you must tune in to hear this Pop Punk / Alternative Rock banger on AMS Radio during "New Arrivals" and "Punked" time slots! Bold today, aren't I? The Unfamiliars - with a question mark - are a band from Athens, Greece that have a nostalgic but fresh, an upbeat but somber sound to them. I like it. While part of the arrangements possess elements of Folk Punk, the vocal lines and melodies remind me of Alternative Rock acts like Paramore.

Hear it Early – “Witness to Everything” By Black Hats A new arrival to AMS Radio is a song called, "Witness to Everything" by a band named Black Hats. It's one of my favorite new songs of the year so far, and it reminds me a bit of The Clash and Billy Talent. The guitar work in particular catches my ear. Whether the upstrokes are well placed ping pong delays or just a really tight rhythm section, it moves the song along with a great energy. The song releases to streaming March 9th - but you can hear now during New Arrivals and Indie Anarchy run times on AMS Radio, and I highly recommend that you do!

Hear it before it's released on AMS Radio! "Constructed around solid grooves, that are built on deft, reggae-infused bass lines and skittering drum beats."
