I am old enough to remember them closing their much-lauded Englewood location, which had been supported by over $10million in TIF money

Adding context that CTA has two other security contracts. One with Allied Universal (viewed more favorably than Monterrey) and Action K-9 so this is not the end of private security on train platforms
Why would you frame it as they "fired" all "private security forces" when what happened was they fired one and signed a big contract with the other? It sure sounds like what they did was ***consolidate*** their private security forces in a new contract with K-9 Security, the pretend dog handlers.
per this the K9 guards are staying on. in what way are they more useful than the guards being removed
this is a terrible bill from kam buckner, increasingly clear that the good government technocrat shtick was mostly a facade

Kam is also sponsoring the bill to legalize robo taxis.
Kam also voted the age gating bill out of committee and again for it in the house.
Kam is not the progressive hero he positions himself as.
This all comes just ~1 month after unhoused residents on the North Side faced eviction from nearby Legion Park on a bitterly cold morning.
Crane picks up unhoused resident’s belongings for disposal
Activists and witnesses claim the grounds for removal were incongruent and conflicting reasons were provided in the lead up to a crane dramatically picking up and disposing of residents' belongings.
A Chicago parks notice of the off street cleaning left in the park prior to the cleaning
Cops and parks staff supervise the impromptu sweep
Chicago Park District workers and cops supervised what was announced to be the removal of “belongings obstructing the public way.”
These cleanings are designated for the removal of improperly stored items—NOT the same as encampment sweeps.
In Chicago today—what was supposed to be a simple off-street cleaning at Eugene Field in Albany Park turned into an encampment sweep that lasted for hours.
City workers destroyed two unhoused residents’ belongings and shelter.
This is some badly-needed positive Chicago housing news.
Also, its going to be the largest geothermal building in the city!

I’m honestly concerned for life safety if a Serve or Coco delivery robot comes tumbling down a CTA subway staircase. One of these robots has the potential to crush, maim and possibly cause a fatal injury to a person using the stairs.
One of these things falling down the stairs of the CTA could genuinely kill multiple people. These things have to be removed immediately.
A federal judge will toss out a lawsuit brought by Illinois and Chicago officials last year that sought to bar the Trump administration’s plans to deploy National Guard troops, finding the case is moot after the U.S. Supreme Court refused such a deployment.https://to.wttw.com/48fqbf3
Socialists like to spend money — lots of other people’s money, of course — and Mamdani has been hampered by the fiscal stewards of Albany who, thankfully for New York City, aren’t likely to allow his more egregious schemes that would only drive away more of the city’s crucial affluent class. A hundred days in, most savvy New Yorkers are surmising there will be a useful detente.
Chicago deserves so much better than the Tribune's editorial board - www.chicagotribune.com/2026/04/19/e...
I doubt any sensible property owner is going to plop an 8-unit building in the middle of a single-family subdivision in Plainfield if it doesn't pencil out. But if people want to live in that building in that location, who are we to tell them no?
Riffing on this: if you assume your neighbor’s house would become an 8-flat the moment it hits the market, you’re implicitly concurring that the housing shortage is real and that your local municipality is actively suppressing the market through restrictive zoning
This is allowed to continue because we send pushovers like @quigley.house.gov to congress. They sit on their hands and tell us to wait until the next election.
A business window with old gold and black lettering partially removed, with the remaining letters spelling out "AW F ICE"
Congratulations to whoever took over the lease on this old law office and had an idea
Illinois signed on to this lawsuit so I hope providers are prepared to explain their plans to resume care, stat.
I just love being forced out of the neighborhood I’ve lived in for half a decade just so my landlord can make a fuck ton of money doing nothing. I think we should be able to hang these people

Officials have released footage showing the fatal shooting of Krystal Rivera following months of work covering the case by Peter Nickeas, @ctoner.bsky.social and our friends in @cstguild.bsky.social. Another example of invaluable work made by our members.
The mandate from Trump and Miller is clear: Our neighbors will continue to be terrorized, detention will continue to be unsafe, and fascists will continue to try to profit from our pain.
We must abolish ICE and dismantle DHS.
Under the Trump-Miller white nationalist agenda, DHS has refused to abide by the protections that DACA provides to Dreamers. Despite the deceptive data provided to Congress, it is clear that DACA recipients are at great risk.
A federal judge in Illinois today ruled that the Trump administration improperly coerced Facebook and Apple to remove ICE-tracking apps in violation of the First Amendment. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
Yikes— The only thing more stale than @billmaher’s 💩 is @RahmEmanuel’s. This sounds like a speech from 5 years ago.
You won’t crack 1% with this garbage. Save your cash, buddy.
My architecture column this weekend. “People are going to be amazed by the work,” the Rev. Reshorna Fitzpatrick, chairperson of Friends of Sears Sunken Garden’s board, said.
Let's build more housing, so working people, young people, the elderly, and more can continue to live in Chicago and the region without fighting impossible rents. Tell your legislator to support the BUILD plan!
