The stakes in these feel lower since you're often just competing with yourself or the CPU, and the standard for "improvement" is easier to grasp and feel because you really start to notice when something starts to feel easier for you to execute. Especially if it's not just because of stat increases.

It's an area where I think stuff like single player games, like difficult action games and arcade puzzle games, and speedrunning (if not full games then time attacks on specific levels in games with built in timers) can really help develop that sense.

I can enjoy those games periodically but they feel like a crutch being confused for a cheat code, both to generate playtime and to minimize playtest/balancing time in design. They really need to do something to stand out and convince me otherwise.

• your identity builds around external validation for your cognitive output, not who you are as a person
• you're rewarded for being smart over working hard
• you never learn to struggle productively
• your ND is exploited

Fuck these programs.

Unhappy to report the phishing one is quickly becoming a real problem now. Why go to the trouble of social engineering when people will just give up their ID, financial info, biometrics, etc. to an AV portal? There's no standards so how can you differentiate a fake one from a real one?
