1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health

Governments are banning teenagers from social media to cover up officials' failure to confront real crises. It’s wrong, dangerous, and cruel. Surveys and studies increasingly expose authorities’ self-interested derelictions and political motives behind scapegoating teens, social media, and “mental health.”

yeah... society doesn't step in. if it did then i wouldn't have been abused by my dad for my entire life. it's all i know because it happened from birth. my mum is keeping me safe by herself now but... well i just got back from hospital so that's how well it's going.

asking chatgpt for answers is like trusting a twitch chat with 8 billion users in it that somehow all work together to give you one (1) super mega bullshit poast in response to anything you type

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted as sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.

i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

connotation can create contextual nuance but an embedding is just when you cast some semantic information into a representative vector space. sometimes they're called latents, some people straight up just call them tensors but that's a level too low for me to consider descriptive...

stop blaming "kids these days" and start blaming "these days"! its not my fault 10 billionaires decided to destroy the world and make parenting really hard for you. i need YOUR help to make the world the kind of place you want me to grow up in.
