We need a physical dictionary in our house. Our old one ended up water damaged and died ignobly. Which CANADIAN dictionary would you suggest?

Typical respectability politics where causing measurable harm to Indigenous Peoples isn't nearly as bad as saying "fuck" in a venerable setter colonizer space.

Ha, I was listening to this and thus remembered the event.

The only other event I cheered in question period before Romeo Saganash called out Justin to his face was the time Brigette DePape got booted from the chamber for showing a STOP HARPER sign.

Literally an evergreen statement.

"Why doesn't the prime minister just say the truth and tell Indigenous peoples that he doesn't give a fuck about their rights?"

MP drops F-bomb in Commons, accuses Trudeau of not caring about Indigenous rights | CBC News The tone of debate in the House of Commons was lowered for the second time in two weeks Tuesday when an NDP MP from Quebec used the f-word during question period.

Can we please declare September 25th Romeo Saganash Day to celebrate when he dropped an F-bomb in Parliament?

Doesn't matter who is PM now, his statements remain true.

I choose to look at this with humour. I'd started moving away from printed news too, but I think I'm headed back the other way. Eventually she decided it was in fact, very cool to be in the paper.

Got my taxes done (early even!) and I made so much less last year, it's almost farcical. And yet, 2025 was my best year for creativity since 2016. I'm still so, so bitter about the academy and what it sucks from your marrow.

Whatever. 2026 is going to be even better.

My kid showed up in a local newspaper as part of a cool event, and I just had the most bizarre conversation with her and her sister about whether a printed local paper is "news."

For the love of everything, can we please kill the internet, just a little, thanks.

There is a special place in hell for white folks who leverage the language of structural racism to protect their own self interests at the cost of Black families.

I've been physically disabled a number of times in my life, and not having somewhere to rest for a bit in public is not just a nuisance, it's ableist as hell. It's actually painful.

But even I haven't seen it and I'm a massive fan of Trek.

So I find I can't make as many media references which actually just results in me... having to explain things more? It's really strange.

No, I've definitely noticed this. Having a gajillion different streaming services and online experiences doesn't really coalesce into the same kind of zeitgeist of pop culture it used to. It seems to have resulted in much shallower subcultures too, focused on aesthetics but not music etc.

I need fresher references when talking to young students, because WHEW. I was like "do you know what Star Trek is" and only the teacher held up her hand, rendering the comparison I was going to make a lot trickier. I kept up with this stuff when I was in the K-12 classroom, but I've let myself drift

DRIPA Facts: What they're not telling you A sourced, plain-language fact-check of British Columbia's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.

Now that the far right in British Columbia is attacking Indigenous rights and fear mongering about DRIPA with misinformation and the NDP is waffling, it’s time to know the facts about DRIPA, from dripafacts.ca 🧵

I know I have a potty mouth, and people assume I'm a total bitch because of it, but I promise I'm kinder than those who purse their lips and say "I'll pray for you."

Like, don't get me wrong, FUCK CANADA and all settler colonial nations. This isn't patriotism. But these are Indigenous lands, and this sort of agitation is messing with Indigenous rights. We don't need to be fighting yet another wannabe colonizer.

Gee I wish I were a ruinously extractive energy company so I could get my projects funded. Instead, the feds stopped funding individual green energy projects back in 2024, so fuck you if you want solar or geothermal I guess. Wanna kill the planet though? TAKE OUR MONEY!

Yeah yeah yeah, we know very well that PP would have been worse than Carney but that does not mean you stop critiquing those in power who are measurably causing harm.

100%! We have a prime minister whose father administered residential schools.
We have him laughing at Grassy Narrows survivors. We have him allowing children in Nunavut to starve. We have him humouring Alberta which wants to steal Indigenous land and break treaties. We have the cancer in Churchill..

And the judge decided that we can only use the term ethnic fraud in the strictly criminal sense of the term fraud? Um, that's not how public discourse works.

Looking forward to this ruling being tossed into the trash bin.
