Asylum once formed an antidote to a world where the sanctity of national borders is placed above that of human life. Then, over centuries of erosion and decades of attack, it was gutted.

Fam, I cannot overemphasize how weird & unsettling this trend is. Talk about it with my political friends A LOT. Not enough good lefties know about it & the dangers it presents. I’m looking forward to this listen from @jewishcurrents.bsky.social
fascinating, troubling listen

Goddamn…
Elad Lapidot in @jewishcurrents.bsky.social
speaking only as an outsider commenting on what is clearly a inter-jewish conversation: this kind of collective responsibility is the only way forward for a religion to survive the crimes committed in its name without giving into them entirely
This kind of thing is so insanely frustrating to me. The implication of ‘Zionism was “formally” secular’ is that it wasn’t actually secular bc of all the things that were clearly religious abt it. In the same sense, now Zionism isn’t secular at all bc it is animated by a blood and soil fascist…

Elad Lapidot: "Our problem is that Judaism today has for some groups become an ideology of genocide. We need to face that now; any moral understanding of Judaism needs an immediate response to that. Are you working to stop the genocide? And what are you doing to stop it?"
Thanks as always to @jewishcurrents.bsky.social for pushing the conversation. This is a fresh articulation of positions that are more or less mine. I wish it was more possible that the work they lay out here be done in a productive relationship to being in public than I think it really can.
