National Library Workers Day sign
Library workers are a special kind of civil servant. Our mandate is to give you and everyone else free access to some of the best things you can have: learning, self-enrichment, community, contemplation, fun, and simple peace and quiet. the best way to appreciate us is to come use us. 🙂 📚
credit cards are an insane thing where if you are a person who needs one to make purchases you wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford they are fiscal suicide but if you’re someone living comfortably within your means they’re a great way to rack up a good credit score & get some cash back on purchases
*hugs back*
also I've never published anything myself so that in itself is impressive to me no matter what you think of the writing
Me too 🤷♀️
7) If your K-12 school has library, find out about their policies and ask staff how to support them
8) If your K-12 school has no library or no librarian, advocate for getting one
9) Get involved in local resistance to book bans and defunding libraries
4) If your library is on thr same social media platform as you, comment positively on their posts
5) Attend programming at your library
6) Renew your card if it's expired
Happy National Library Week! This week you should:
1) Donate $ to your local Friends of the Library
2) Write to your public library director to thank them for standing up for diversity or to condemn them for caving to fascists
3) Plan a similar public comment for the next library board mtg

the only actual good bird photo I got today was of this dude
I use different nicknames for work and Online now
laser hair removal place that gives you a char mask for eye protection
We did! And those ospreys got so close
also my parents' friends took us to the gift shop and I finally got a @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social Area X shirt (and some cute pins for @cloudtools.bsky.social)
A person in a black hat and white shirt with a black check pattern looks out over a dry but marshy pond area
the drought is very bad and very evident but we went to St. Mark's NWR for my dad's birthday again and we saw a ROSEATE SPOONBILL NEST among many other cool birds
A very small tortie kitten
Soooooooooo
while I'm at it my hotter bookstore take is that "banned books" displays in stores are there to profit off the censorship of libraries
yeah extremely this. it's not reasonable to expect people to have to work around this crap. I also sometimes help people with tech at my job and I frequently have to reassure them that the tech is the problem and not them
anyway both nora's thread and katelyn's are good and you should read them too
that's not even getting into how at work I'm locked into whatever software our IT office decides we have to use and whatever restrictions they decide to put on it, so I often simply can't have things working the way I want
I'm also this kind of user but, for example, @cloudtools.bsky.social really isnt. so it's extra frustrating for them to have to deal with all software basically requiring this level of knowledge and attention to use now because the industry stopped caring whether their products are usuable.
the petit bourgeoisie are one of the main constituencies for fascism actually!
yes, I know there's also a gay bookstore, don't @ me
you inspired me to finally post this from my drafts
the fact that the main indie bookshop in town is owned by a former jeb aide kinda gives the lie to the whole idea of them as being in some way virtuous
imagine, if you will, a tater tot so crunchy that the crunch echos on for eternity
I can't see replies to postes so I'm just going to pretend there aren't any
