Treadmill control in Matlab with live-streamed marker-based perturbations โ
Research project using this ๐

Can anyone point me in the direction of a c3d reader for matlab that works on iOS? Iโm currently going round in circlesโฆ
K.I.S.S. And R.T.F.Q.are my most frequent acronyms for my students these days. Everyone loves to overcomplicate things!
I am of the mindset that inclusion of diverse participants (barring necessary scientific justification e.g. exclusion of cis men from a pregnancy study) should be a requirement for journal publication these days. I hope as a field we can start to enact this!
So long as the science is strong and the communication is clear and effective, voice is nominal in my opinion. Iโd much rather read compelling science with a strong narrative, regardless of active or passive voice.

Why are people still attempting to publish science conducted on men only, when there is NO SCIENTIFIC JUSTIFICATION for it in the research question? Is this grounds for immediate rejection?
Hi new Bluesky users ๐ I sometimes post about science (biomechanics), lab activity, or fun shareable info. Hereโs me teaching on my treadmill!
Today has been an escapade but my treadmill is in the lab!! Cameras go up next week. Itโs coming together finally!!!
New paper alert! Here we investigated how visual feedback might improve propulsive force in people with Parkinson's Disease authors.elsevier.com/c/1iu~l4-6-h...
Congratulations!! ๐ sounds like an interesting study too
First data collection as PI kicks off next week! Fingers crossed for no issues & that we can submit some data to ASB in a month ๐ค
Trying to organize the research thoughts into something coherent and fundable is so fun ๐ Funding agencies: canโt you just take my mind map and say โ or ๐ซ? #grantwriting #science
Reading up on heart rate variability for state anxietyโฆended up in the forest bathing literature ๐ never ceases to amaze me just how interdisciplinary biomechanics is. You never know where youโre going to end up!
LPT: binaural beats for focus helps with getting in the zone writing. Just press play while writing and not while youโre having a brain break on IG else you focus there instead ๐
Easing back into science this week by catching up on all the interesting papers I added to my โTBRโ. Less fun: also dealing with the business side of getting funding ๐ weโre scientists not accountants!
2024: the year of grant writing. You heard it here first ๐ฌ๐ค
Oh no! This has happened in a few labs Iโve been a part of - itโs such an invasion. Hope you can get it taken care of easily & safely!
Biggest ego boost: give research talk to Mom ๐ฅฐ Iโve never felt more smart or accomplished!
I finally learned to convert between school year and grade by adding 1 (so 8th grade is year 9). Iโve been here almost 8 years and it still trips me
ChatGPT to the rescue! The IRB here asked that we run all our text through a readability scoring system - which scores what grade your text is at. Fascinating. readabilityformulas.com/readability-...
My consent form got returned by IRB for being at 10th grade reading level, not 8th grade. It's so hard to pitch it appropriately when I didn't go to school here! I was reading Gone with the Wind at 14 sooooo
@bellephd.bsky.social this would be awesome ๐
Loving the biomechanists joining here. I've missed academic twitter - here's hoping we can cultivate the same sci-comm, discussion-generating, welcoming and accepting space here!
I made the mistake of making the final assignment in my undergrad biomechanics class a white paper. The mistake comes in asking them to use JoB reference style (with the link to the style for Zotero). Why does every other prof use MLA?!
Well, I did it. IRB submitted! A few more hours left and then adventure time!
Multiple senior faculty positions at the University of Michigan in the Applied Exercise Science program within the School of Kinesiology. These positions could be great opportunities for senior scholars who work in the area of applied biomechanics. #BiomechSky

Please RT. My lab is recruiting PhD student(s) with interest/expertise in #wearables, #biomechanics, #machinelearning, #musculoskeletalmodeling, and #mechatronics with applications to gait and balance control. Priority deadline is Dec. 5. More info at neuromoblab.com
2 weeks left in the semester and it's hard to tell who's crawling towards the finish line more...faculty or students? I WILL submit this IRB before the end of next week though
Internal grant: obtained. Finally and officially a funded researcher!
