I've just been notified by the DMV that my California driver's license is to be imminently cancelled unless I am able to provide proof of residency in the US... Anyone else had this notification?!

Aims and Scope The Journal of Mughal Studies, the first peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to this field, provides a venue for original researched scholarship on the diverse historical worlds connected to the Mughal Empire and its wider context. The journal takes a broad view of what is considered Mughal, welcoming contributions across the history, culture, politics, economy, art, architecture, and literature of the Mughal world, and embracing a wider temporal and geographical scope when these offer significant contributions to the field. Rather than restricting inquiry to the institutions of imperial rule or to a narrow chronological frame, it welcomes research that highlights the history of the diverse populations that lived under imperial rule and of communities whose histories intersected with or unfolded alongside imperial formations. Contributions drawing on archaeology, epigraphy, material culture, vernacular archives, and other non-traditional or interdisciplinary sources are especially welcome, as are studies attentive to subaltern actors, everyday practices, and the circulation of knowledge, goods, and people across regions. The journal also particularly welcomes research and analysis of museum and library collections, and reviews of public-facing outputs such as exhibitions, digital humanities projects, and public programs.

Excited to see this new journal dedicated to the study of the Mughal Empire!

If anyone is looking for fun (and free) ways to entertain children during Spring Break, I can highly recommend these two virtual escape rooms from @shelburnemuseum.bsky.social. My 6-yr old and I spent a good few hours puzzling through them today...

A student of mine has written an exceptional paper on the practice of amr bi-l-maʿrūf on X and other social media platforms. Can anyone recommend a possible undergraduate journal she might submit a revised version to?

It's anecdotal of course, but all the worst people I knew at school and university suddenly have titles like "agentic AI engineering lead".

The first week for both courses was markedly - very markedly - better than it has been in recent years. Students were engaged, they had done the reading and they had things to say. It reminded me that teaching can be a deeply enjoyable experience.

I've just learned from my Catholic mother-in-law that during her childhood everyone in her household, including (especially?) children, was required to be silent between midday and 3PM on Good Friday. Christianity has never been more appealing....

Radically transforming my teaching this quarter. No electronics in class, almost all writing assignments in class, part of the grade based on submission of hard copies of the readings with annotations and notes. So so tired of fighting the tide of AI slop so I hope this works…

I‘m finally watching Dhurandhar and it’s a compelling film in many ways but it’s really hard to suspend disbelief in a Lyari where every is written in naskh and not nastaliq.

Man, one of the most depressing aspects of modern scholarship is finding a great article and then looking up the scholar to see what else they’ve done and just catching a glimpse of an abbreviated career hopping between visiting positions and publishing great pieces before disappearing from academia

Trump's War on Iran Isn't About Armageddon, It’s the First Meme War On Monday, two days after the U.S. and Israel carried out a series of attacks on Iran—dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” by the U.S. and “Operation Roaring Lion” by Israel—reports began circulating of comma...

this by @laurenhorngriffin.bsky.social is really good. I love her work and generally buy her argument.

that said, i do wanna push back on 1 thread within the argument. it's about how ideas work. 1/

Catholic Library, Muslim Books In the 1950s and 1960s, the Dominicans in Cairo collected rare printed books in Arabic, particularly Muslim devotional works rarely found in other libraries.

"In the 1950s and 1960s, the Dominicans collected rare printed books in Arabic, particularly Muslim devotional works . . . These books are slim and ephemeral . . . Most other repositories of rare books in the Muslim world don’t think they’re worth collecting."
