dhuartson: Don't let anyone talk you out of spending $15 on a new hobby. That $50 will be the best $400 you ever spent.
This is not wrong.
π Less a discussion and more me trying to absorb knowledge you shared. Which thank you, btw. I appreciate the context so I can better understand as I poke around the subject
good thread
In addition to the big environmental wins listed here, it's worth celebrating the smaller, local victories that often go unheralded but make those places cleaner and healthier for everyone who lives there.
For example:
Yeah, I hear ya. I walked past some big amur honey suckle this past weekend on cousin's property that I REALLY want to take a chainsaw to. Also pulled a shit ton of garlic mustard. Invasives need culled hard
Ah, that can complicate things but not always. Orgs like Land Trust Alliance could help ya if interested.

Dear boss: I am unable to go to work today because there are wild turkeys in the field behind the house and I need to watch them.

Seems too good to be true...
So in the lens of extending the Jones Act waiver, we could potentially update our military fleet more quickly (and possibly cheaper?) but we would still struggle long term due to the contraction in shipbuilding workforce/facilities?
Ok this is fascinating. We have two ferries I am aware of that are publicly run in my state. This is critical infrastructure but so different than what folks normally think of. (I.em people only notice govt when it doesn't work)
PLEASE, consider putting it in a land trust for future conservation. There are some amazing orgs out there that can prep all that paperwork for you. There are ways to do things that will preserve your ability to access the land for personal use and ensure every scrap of habitat we have leftnis saved
I want to live in a world where agricultural regulation means a percentage of the acerage you hold MUST be filter strips, hedgerows, placed in an actively managed conservation program. Idk how we do it, but I know it would save billions in cleaner water, habitat creation, clean air, climate benefits
Had this argument the other day re: turkey populations. Farmers pushed back or eliminated timber stands for an extra few bushels. Everybody blames return of bobcats and small predator increase but the lack of nesting/brooding sites is the no. 1 factor in their decline.
It is obvious, and yet I blinked cause I hadn't thought of N & S Dakota that way. Is this in a "how the states got their shapes" episode or something? I need some reading
Tell me more please (genuinely!) Domestic shipbuilding seems to come up now and again as needing new life breathed into it, but seems that most of what our current military fleet needs is not carriers but smaller, agile craft. Yet DOD has put money into wrong places to develop that

Every time this tailor posts a photo of their workspace, it looks like their dog is a tailor and he's showing off the garments he made.

As long as you gave the dog lots of pets for us, all is well
Good thread
Did you pay the dog tax?
I am the human embodiment of an old pull start lawnmower that you keep trying to get going but it dies about 30 seconds after the flywheel catches.
And before you say it, yes I am trying to eat healthy, move, talking to doctors, recording daily entries to observe patterns
Hard agree. Overstimulation is as bad as understimulation
Music is so underrated in education. Seriously can supercharge brains to learn to read, play, write music. I wish it was more accessible, much like foreign language, at a younger age.
My best friend's nephew plays football, basketball, plays in marching band, fishes on the bass team and is in 4H. His grandparents underwrite some of those activities. It is cool he does so much but dear lord the cost and energy is just π΅βπ«
Yeah, sounds about right. It's a weird middle class/upper middle class thing.
Ah, the extra curriculars have not hit you hard yet. Around here that 4-5th grade is when they all start doing traveling sports teams and shit. Sports complexs are all the rage here for tournaments.
punished harshly. Like you're allowed to have a "career" but only if you can do the mom/housewife shit too. They see a man step into primary parent territory and feel the need to womansplain because their view is it is a female role. It's assbackwards but social conditioning is REAL hars to unlearn
