I loved Morrowind, but it was so exploitable. I would leave the first town with stats maxed and a fortune from alchemy. I would also be flying everywhere via the powerful levitate potions I could make and no enemy could touch me.

I find the Newt's family scenes worse than unnecessary. The unknown is the scariest thing there is. Going into the ruined facilities, knowing what happened, but not REALLY knowing is way scarier.
