An early concept art painting I created exploring the character design for the game Journey. Two masked figures stand in a dust storm, ther robes blowing in the wind.

This character was an important early step towards the final character design in Journey. I designed it before the game was greenlit, in the first weeks of the project. Elements of it stuck around until the end, and it helped define the art direction.
I'll share a bit about it in this thread.

The Meta thing is interesting because users have been vocally opposed to all these tweaks along the way & they have defended each one w/ metrics+engagement.

But when there’s competition, people are moving.

It’s a reminder that engagement ≠ enjoyment. Wonder what experts have to say about this ⬇️
