WIP of the Cyberpunk Vertical City Building Game.
We made some early blockouts and are unsure where we should go, fill out as much space as possible or leave some room?
Of course various infrastructure elements will be generated inbetween blocks. #gamedev #indiedev #unity #gameart #3dart

Russian propaganda on Steam! 💙💛 You can help with reporting. They frame this as true information but praise the russian army as heroes and soldiers of piece, using phrases like "brilliant Russian airborne assault" of an ongoing warcrime. #StandWithUkraine #steam #gamedev

Update on my Game Project Explorer 🚀
It scans #Unity, #Unrealengine & #Godot projects and reports project sizes, especially temporary data.
On my machine:
📁 112 projects
💾 172 GB of Library data
Thoughts?
What’s the Unreal/Godot equivalent of Unity’s Library folder? #indiedev #gamedev #gametools
3rdParty tools are great. But they also make you more dependent. The more dep. you have in a project the harder it becomes to maintain and the less stable it becomes. You add more technical debt which you can not control and "repay". Think twice before including a package is my advice.
The issue was indeed a third party plugin:

Recently I defended Unity and blamed 3rdParty tools for constant crashes. I was right, it was the RIVE UI plugin. I don't want to bash them, bugs happen, especially when we update engines. But avoiding 3rdParty tools has safed me so much trouble in the past! #unity #unreal #godot #gamedev #indiedev
We will investigate these issues, but the main difference that I can see from people having issues and the projects that I work with is the huge difference in third party tools which I avoid if I can. Also a simple memory leaking editor script can do so much damage.
Don't always blame the engine, I think the main issue people have with their projects crashing are fishy (third party) scripts. #Unity has it's flaws, but I can't even remember the last crash I had before I jumped into this project of a customer, which does it always. #gamedev
What is your system prompt?
Some devs still use simple text editors and no propper IDEs and I think that is a mistake. Even the basic autofill suggestions can safe you 30mins per day just by completing lines like these. Testing and debugging becomes so much more productive. #visualstudio #vscode #programming #gamedev #ide
Yesterday I checked GPU prices again. Net price is now greater than gross pricesa month ago. Then today I found a back payment request from the health insurance and an increase in the base rent in my mailbox. Whats your day like? #gamedevbusiness #gamedevbusiness #selfemployed #selbstständig
Do you remember the "Make MMO" button that we joked about in game engine communities? I wonder how long it will take to be a reality with agentic AI. I don't mind how good or bad it might be, but the fact that it will finally exist produces mixed feelings. #gamedev #AI #indiedev #unity #unreal
Whether this decission was legit, studio heads who can't work together with their employees should step down or not even start that business. It's hard to make game dev work, but it's easier if you make it work for everyone involved. Yet Ubisoft is not known for good team building. #gamedev
Working with two #Unity projects (20GB of assets each) and merging a sub-project into main while the core team is actively developing. I migrate folder by folder and occasionally rebase onto main while I tidy up. The .meta files do their job and GUIDs stay intact.
How'd you do that? #git #devops
It shows that games can be long term successes. Also Recent games make up less than 16% and more and more of those are pure slop. So these numbers make some sense to me.
There are still many variables and this can not predict the sales numbers that you can achieve, but based on any sales number, the price of your product and discount and localization strategy, you can fairly well find a corridor of what realistic net revenue for you as a developer will look like.

I made a Steam Revenue Calculator and wrote an Article since most calculators are worthless and intransparent. E.g. you can calculate your break even sales numbers and see if they are realistic to achieve. #gamedev #indiedev #gamebusiness #steam #taxes

Thank you! There are more games than I thought there are, even LOL has outlines to some extend. But it is always rather subtle and often hard to notice.
Are outlines even nice? I mean, everyone wants these Outline shaders but it's very hard to find actual games using outline shaders. And if they do, they are rather subtle. Just experimenting with styles and techniques. #unity #gamedev #indiedev #3d #artstyle #screenshot
Nothing spikes user frustration faster than a UI that won’t let them click. Even a barely visible shadow can ruin everything.
Fix: Put the shadow or background graphic on a separate layer that doesn’t block pointer events.

Nearly a year ago I prototyped a grass shader. Now the grass reacts to mowing, footsteps, and object pressure. Basically there’s just a simple brush system behind it and a lot of shader nodes. Maybe it becomes a cozy garden-sim someday…

Guess which products you ship in this logistics simulator! I recently added 3000 Cities of the world and they influence various aspects. Reddish tinted areas are suitable for production with fertile lands and within your control. #screenshotsaturday #wip #gamedev #indiedev
