That sounds pretty perfect! Today's inattentiveness to the kettle is a very regular issue.
Our old kettle died a year or two ago, and I think we're largely unimpressed with the replacement one... But also don't want to be wasteful and replace it while it is still technically functional.
This just makes me feel bad for our kettle! It has no confidence in itself/low self-esteem!
"Water boiled... Not that anyone cares or will notice. 😔"
We regularly get asked why we don't separate them. We usually point out that it would cause endless debates over which books "qualify" as one over the other. There isn't a clear delineation that fits perfectly for every single book, and given SFF is all we do... it's so much easier to have it mixed.
I've boiled the kettle 4 times in the last two hours in an attempt to make tea... and keep forgetting about the water until it has cooled significantly.
I'm starting to believe I might need more tea before I can functionally make tea.
Reminder that in this house we do not trash other genres of books to support the genre we like the most. One, come on, we're grown ups. Two, the bottom line is people reading and loving books. Three, every writer you know has friends working other genres, don't trash their friends, thanks.
It said National Black Bookstore Day, not International... but I won't pass up a chance to shout-out A Different Booklist!

We're here to support authors, not so-called AI LLMs.
Yup! We'll never knowingly carry a book made with AI. Occasionally ones with AI covers get shown to us in catalogues. It's an instant no. We also added a clause to our consignment agreements that if we learn of any usage of AI in the creation of the book, it will be removed from our shelves.
*sigh*
If your Kickstarter video/image is AI, I won't back it.
If your book has an AI cover, I won't read it.
If you're a public supporter of AI use for creative work, I will unfollow you.
I cannot stress enough how offensive I find AI use in the arts. It is outright theft, it is lazy, it is gross.

Longer hours, yay! Closed for the weekend... also yay!
I would write in @bakkaphoenix.bsky.social, which I have been going to in one form or another since it was on Queen Street and I was a teen in the 70s, but I might be accused of bias.
Upton Arms by Scott Craven! It does look like it could be fun.
A bookshelf, with five rows of shelves visible. All the books on the shelf are displayed with their pages out, so the spines and front covers aren't visible. Why? Because two tired booksellers thought it would be funny almost a month ago, and saved the photo for April 1st.
Judging a book by its cover? Tired.
Judging a book by its sprayed edges (or lack thereof)? Inspired.
It's time to embrace the sprayed edge! We're now shelving books pages out so you can see if a book is truly pretty enough for your shelves.
😉

A copy of Seasons of Glass and Iron next to a paperback copy of The River Has Roots, both by Amal El-Mohtar, resting on a background of aged sheet music, handwritten letters, and pink flowers.
Today (and every day) is a great day to be a fan of @amalelmohtar.com!🤩
The happiest of book birthdays to Seasons of Glass and Iron, her new collection of stories, and the paperback edition of The River Has Roots!
Tomorrow, actually tomorrow, Trace Elements will be released! And here's one of the essays in it, one Ada and I wrote together.

I LOVE these covers
I just figured it's our temperamental book ghosts being displeased about the rain and humidity outdoors. They don't want any of that coming inside.
Thankfully, no!
We just can't open our door, which makes it a little bit of a challenge to let people in. Waiting for a locksmith to arrive.
