Study Finds Each Protein in the Epigenome Produces a Different Pattern of Gene Expression A new study finds the proteins responsible for controlling which genes are expressed in a genome do more than simply turn a gene on or off.

We've known that the proteins in the epigenome control DNA expression, but we thought they were just on-off switches.
They're not. They're more.

This is pretty remarkable.

I am really really really looking forward to a time when we can have a tool for my extremely dysgraphic kid to use to compose text without controlling what he is actually writing. At this point I can't visualize it.

ICE detained more than 70 Minnesota children, data reveals Immigration officials detained more than 70 Minnesota children between Dec. 1 and March 10, a Sahan analysis of court records and federal deportation data shows.

"Nearly two dozen were held in custody for more than 20 days...Teens who were detained alone were sent to Christian youth shelters in Michigan, which made it hard for their families to find them. And nearly half of the children detained have since left the country." sahanjournal.com/immigration/...

MSG Security Allegedly Tracked a Trans Woman’s Movements, Including Bathroom Breaks, Down to the Second A bomshell report in Wired details an extensive use of the venue’s facial recognition system.

This is totally predictable and exactly why we have been fighting for years to ban the use of facial recognition in concert venues.

Madison Square Garden is one of the only venues in the country that still does this.

I would reframe this. Instead of seeing arguments over, for example, attacks on trans people as a distraction from the real issue, I would say that attacking marginalised people is inherent to how this ruling class reproduces its power.

Maybe we don’t call it a ‘singer’ if it doesn’t have vocal cords.Making a synthesizer reproduce violin sounds does not make it a violin.

as the cost of plastics and shipping increases, as consumer dissatisfaction does too, they should pivot based on their image. it matches their brand better than any other hardware maker.

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?
