Trump Pauses Disbursements to Program Supplying H.I.V. Treatment Worldwide Pepfar, which is estimated to have delivered lifesaving treatment to as many as 25 million people in 54 countries, faces a funding delay of as long as 180 days.

PEPFAR is one of the most successful global health programs ever

It provides HIV treatment for 20 million people

And now it faces a funding delay of up to 6 months

Without access to treatment, HIV can rebound in less than a month.

This is self-defeating stupidity. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/24/u...

I’m not surprised but it just shouldn’t be this easy for a single bad actor to single-handedly end decades of good will and groundbreaking work in the areas of public health and foreign policy

Hi #idsky friends anyone have recommendations for good review resources for ID topics that isn’t sketchy? Asking both for myself as a rising fellow but also as something I can recommend to my students to help them learn antibiotics and ID illness scripts that isn’t rote memorization

2s google search. Polio kills people and we are so close to eradicating the virus worldwide. There a many reasons for the explosive growth of cancers today and vaccines are very low in my differential. This is fearmongering that will get people killed

Primary care is already significantly handicapped by insurance limitations and the fact we focus on the sequelae of poor prevention is very much part of why we spend too much on healthcare. Risk mitigation is just as important if not more so than reactive spending.

"Drug fever, the most ironic of which are antibiotic drug fevers, which cause the unfortunate tautology of the team insisting on continuing the antibiotic to treat the fever caused by the antibiotic"

I had a patient I admitted in residency who had half his face missing after 3 years of being denied by insurance to remove a basal cell carcinoma he had been diagnosed with when it was just a small papule. I don’t condone murder, but I also don’t condone insurance companies

THIS IS HUGE! An HIV PrEP drug candidate in the form of a twice-yearly subcutaneous injection has been shown to reduce HIV infections by 96% in a SECOND late-stage Phase III trial. Lenacapavir was 99.9% effective at preventing HIV in MORE THAN 2,000 participants. Let’s talk about that! 🧪🧵⬇️

I’m so looking forward to the well thought out global policy changes we should see over the next 4 years. Shameful

Ok but like he doesn’t actually have to go through with this. Sure it sounds sexy to people who don’t know how global economics work, but he can just not do it like every other random “promise” he makes . Surely someone in his inner circle knows this is a bad idea… well actually never mind
