This is the result of the investigative and documentation work conducted by Mexico-based civil society organization IDHEAS and the Comisión Mexicana de Defensa y Promoción de los Derechos Humanos CMDPDH, in collaboration with the FIDH - International Federation for Human Rights.
For the very first time, the Committee on Enforced Disappearances activated article 34 of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and decided to formally refer the ongoing situation in Mexico to the United Nations General Assembly.

In Feb 2025, a federal criminal court in Buenos Aires ordered arrest warrants against 25 Myanmar officials, 1 included Min Aung Hlaing, the current Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar military, for the crime of genocide & crimes against humanity committed against the Rohingya between 2012 & 2018.
Our justice and human rights experts have also transferred their skills and knowledge to 740 members of organizations involved in justice and accountability processes, 58% of which were women.

This event was an opportunity to highlight the benefits and demonstrate the practical application of the Tool. Participants could exchange views on the implementation of the Tool, in times of current financial, capacity, and political challenges.

JRR's long-term partner, #Yazda, was a civil party to this case. When it testified, it emphasized the long-lasting consequences of the genocide on the Yazidi community. Yazda's role was also key in monitoring the trial, providing regular updates on the trial to keep the community informed.
On 20 March, the Paris Criminal Court found Sabri Essid, a French jihadist and former high-official of the terrorist organization Islamic State, guilty of #genocide and crimes against humanity committed against #Yazidi women and their children, and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
We were proud to support the IICI with the development of its publication by sharing best practices and lessons learned on ways to promote initiatives that protect and promote survivors’ psychosocial well-being.

Last month, a JRR Restorative Justice Expert participated in an interactive dialogue with judges from the Jurisdicción Especial para la Paz (JEP) to discuss best practices and lessons learned from their recent deployment.
