The cost (in carbon and electricity) of stored images is not a significant factor. The recent (massive) increase in data center use can be attributed to two things: blockchain applications and AI applications.
It's the compute operations, not the storage, that drives up the cost.

It's ironic bc, while we're worried about the negligible risk of LLM-baseed AI becoming sentient and killing us all, were quietly all but ensuring LLM-based AI will produce enough carbon to kill us all.

Be careful with this. The discord is between the US media owned by activist (Trump friendly) billionaires compared to independent media. The distinction is important for two reasons: to know where real.journalism exists, and bc if you think they aren't coming for your news outlets you're at risk.

Read this and be ready to act. The attack on the southern poverty law center is a blatant attempt to silence those who fight for civil rights.

Investigating the Good Guys DOJ claims the Southern Poverty Law Center was "paying off" the Ku Klux Klan. The group's track record and common sense suggest otherwise.

A little background on who the Southern Poverty Law Center is and what kind of work they’ve been doing for decades makes it clear that DOJ’s indictment (which is of the center, not of any individuals) is vindictive & malicious, an attack on civil rights work itself. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

If the GOP wants to use their majority to require all congressional and presidential elections mirror the popular vote, ending all gerrymandering for good, everywhere, we're down. But if they only want to complain about places they lose, hah, and also that's just sad.

45,000 deaths in WW1 due to influenza, almost as many as killed by weapons (55,000). Compare that to WW2 which saw vastly reduced impact following antibiotics and the first flu vaccine approved for military use (1945) and it's clear this is a policy in which dogma is more important than soldiers.

The president is a vile, criminal, dangerous traitor who needs to be removed and put to justice. But it is not in anyone's interest to call on the secret service to stop doing their job. Every future president, some of whom you might support, would be afraid, and the SS would have policy leverage.

When you don't have a strong antitrust, corporations can make decisions that are hostile to consumers. It will never get better until we establish competitive markets, which in this case would mean banning exclusive NBA contracts.

But we won't, bc the country is run by thieves
