I normally hate LinkedIn, and have seriously been thinking about deactivating my account. But I jumped on it today, and saw this interesting post from the CEO of the New Humanitarian @tammam.bsky.social about the failure of western journalism today. An excellent read.

A statement about what is happening, and the world's reaction to it, from someone I had the pleasure working with in my time at MSF. One of the smartest people I have ever met.

Here’s What All Those Brigitte Bardot Obituaries Got Wrong About Her Legacy The legendary actress and activist was also kind of the worst, so how do we talk about that?

"Bardot is one of the most important sex symbols in pop culture history and she was also a massive racist with a misogynistic streak a mile wide...If Bardot didn't want her legacy to be defined by her own words, she wouldn't have said them."

Ok so it's not making me as angry as Wuthering Heights. It's just as meandering, but everyone isn't terrible and while Jane drives me nuts at times, I can understand where she is coming from (sort of) at times.

I'm reading (ok audiobook) Jane Eyre for the first time. Haven't seen the movies and don't know the story. What I do know is that I'm on chapter 23 and she's about to be married and I am certain that Mr Rochester is an absolute scoundrel

I'm not planning on going to the US any time soon (just not safe!) but when I do, I think I want to go to Portland. Everything I have read about it makes it sound like a fantastic city

I was at Sprüngli in Zurich this morning for a hot chocolate. A dark skinned woman came in and asked for a table. She was told to wait. A white lady came in just after and was seated immediately. And honestly, the hot chocolate wasn't even that good. Definitely taking my money elsewhere from now on

Hi there! I'm excited to announce that I have a short story published in @thewritelaunch.bsky.social this month. Parent-child relationships are always complicated, much more so as we get older. I try to explore that here.

Sadly racial profiling is alive and well in Zurich as well.

I had read that if someone at a store like Sephora gives you a basket it's profiling. I thought it was just a US thing but I just went into Claire's in Zurich & the woman accosted me with a basket. She followed me around & didn't stop until I left. There were many others in the store, all ignored.
