After Bogalusa's mayor was caught in a drug trafficking investigation, a local accountant appointed by the state took over the city's administration. He doesn't talk to the city's elected leader, and he makes $200 per hour. By Willie Swett:

One of the 6 escapees still on the run from the New Orleans jail previously broke out from a detention center in North Louisiana in 2019, @nolanews.bsky.social found.
Not only has Jean Lafitte's mayor sued his opponent in the upcoming Jefferson Parish Council Race, but he's also reported him to the Attorney General on accusations of federal fraud and tax evasion for building a second home on his property in Lafitte. www.nola.com/news/politic...

The Jefferson Parish Council will decide tomorrow whether to use the term "Gulf of America" on its maps after Jennifer Van Vrancken, an outspoken supporter of Trump, authored a resolution that's already facing pushback from colleagues.
No, you can't bring your Bourbon Street hand grenade home with you when you fly through the New Orleans airport. See what rules TSA has for traveling after the Super Bowl as the airport sees record number of passengers
This column @jeff-duncan.bsky.social summed up the successes of Super Bowl weekend the best with this line: "The week was cathartic on so many levels and for so many reasons. It was exactly what New Orleans needed after Jan. 1."
And this past weekend, our homepage was flooded with stories of football festivities, celeb sightings, security and more ahead of the Super Bowl as reporters worked 24/7 (literally). This story by Joey Cranney about Markey's Bar was a personal favorite of mine
After more than 10 inches of snow blanketed New Orleans only 3 weeks later, we stayed on top of breaking news updates on closures, traffic and water issues (while still having fun playing in the snow)
A team of us wrote stories for every victim of the attack, shining light on who they were. And @emilywoodruff.bsky.social wrote this great story on the impact the attack had on survivors:

Today I feel very proud to be part of @nolanews.bsky.social. We've been hit with everything you could imagine over the last month - a terrorist attack, historic snowstorms and now the Super Bowl - and every time we've worked so hard to deliver incredible journalism. Some examples:
Alexis Scott-Windham, an attack survivor who was originally denied time off by Amazon, said she's grateful for the outpouring of support. One person even offered to pay for her daughter's second birthday party.
"Just to see people fight for me when they don't even know me, it just warms my heart."
Decided to join bluesky since my story is blowing up here- thanks everyone who's read it! Update: Amazon contacted Ms. Scott-Windham and is now giving her time off with pay.
