Australia’s coalmine emissions are increasing. Is this how a major policy to cut climate pollution is meant to work? The Albanese government overhauled policy and promised significant pollution cuts – but carbon offsets are still being used as an excuse

Just pass it, they said. The perfect is the enemy of the good, they said.

Why did environmental NGOs get behind the safeguard mechanism, and what are they actually good for?

Okay I'm trying out this new chatbot energy / emissions calculator, it seems to align closely with other estimates I've done

1.32 watt hours for a calculation - to deliver the wrong answer (I consider any deviation > 0 to be a total failure for a calculation)

Sam Altman Says It'll Take Another Year Before ChatGPT Can Start a Timer An $852 billion company, ladies and gentlemen.

Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work*

Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!

There’s an easy way to plug a budget black hole, at no cost to voters Do Australian consumers rate higher than foreign companies? Next month’s budget is the test.

When corporations get public resources for nothing they are stealing from public health, education and housing. Greens don’t take donations from gas corporations because, unlike Labor, we don’t want to please them - we want to tax them - so we all have what we need www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...

The beloved emperor penguin and Antarctic fur seal are now officially endangered. Here’s what can be done The loss of iconic Antarctic wildlife is no longer a future possibility. It is happening in real-time, while we watch.

📉 "Defining these animals as endangered is a stark reminder of how quickly Antarctica is changing before our eyes. Without a rapid reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and sustained conservation action, these species may be lost forever."

So. According to Adobe the basic plan now costs more each month than it would cost me to just buy the thing, but I can get the "standard" plan if I don't need the Pro and that will save me (checks notes) 25 cents. To be fair it is a good assessment of how much those AI functions are worth to me.

"No court was involved.
No law was broken.
No democratic process was triggered. What happened was quieter &, in many ways, more troubling. A small, organised, & well-resourced group applied pressure to the sponsors & event bookers who sustained her work – & those institutions folded.” #auspol
