Dear Adobe

It’s you, not me. It’s been a good twenty years, but you’ve changed. Neither my budget nor my conscience can afford this relationship.

The Other Wind by Ursula Le Guin. Not my first foray into Earthsea, but more escapist than my other more dystopian read.

About to sit down with a group of high schoolers to talk about being a writer and author. I’ll be reading an excerpt which I haven’t decided on yet. Feeling a bit self-conscious…

A.I. Is Writing Fiction. Publishers Are Unprepared.

"For authors, this is not just a technology, it’s a moral issue. Authors feel their work has been stolen." —Seth Fishman www.nytimes.com/2026/03/19/b...

‘The researchers said it was “maddening” that such easy action to fight the climate crisis was not being taken, and said people should be angry. Stopping the leaks can even be free, given that captured gas can be sold – methane is the “natural gas” that fires power stations.’

Salvador waits every day to ask the salvage tugs if they’ve found any batteries. Any size, as long as they hold a spark. He can wire them into his network to drip any remaining juice into his defunct phone. Just enough power to see her face again…

Best of luck in your decision. I often remember the last lines of Frost’s poem “the road not taken”

“I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

It took me a year to learn how to teleport without voiding my bladder every time. Just planning ahead so that there would be a change of clothes at my destination was enough to drive me to diapers. I can hold it now… but I need to squeeze my eyes shut when I pee so that I don’t jump accidentally.

I’ve been using PS for over two decades and I honestly can’t remember ever “saving a copy” of anything.

The manual librarian collects only manuals and operations guides of anything mechanical or electronic. His warehouse looks more like an ordered hoarder’s fantasy than a library, ever spine thin and white. Impossible to reference, but everything’s there if you look long enough.

Tor assumed that it grew steadily from year to year, but he'd heard that pieces or sections occasionally broke off and floated away, whether by design or storm. It wasn't known as being a safe place, but Tor was running short on options.

It didn't claim any area of the sea in particular, but its active location was closely guarded. Even its size and population were a matter of speculation.

The North Atlantic Free Peoples Haven, or 'Berg' was a pseudo-island built from cobbled and cabled together abandoned shipping containers and other flotsam found drifting across the North Atlantic.

I eventually got a tattoo to remind me of the dichotomy of the decision. It says fernweh (wanderlust) and heimweh (homesickness). There will always be a certain level of pull no matter where you are.

I moved from California to Romania ten years ago with my wife to pursue building a family and planting roots. It has been hard being away from family, but we communicate often and visit one way or another every year or so. Still, there is a level of regret.

THE MAJOR ARCANA by Jason Marbach & R.W. Meadors, on sale April 7th, 2026

The blurb (featured on the back cover of the book) reads as follows:

“There is a house deep in the bayous outside of New Orleans where reality itself is often more a suggestion than a rule. There, the ghosts of Louisiana drift amidst the cypress roots, thick as fireflies. Those who dwell between the puddles and the boughs feel the spirits upon their skin like sweat, ever-present and inescapable.

But sometimes, a restless spirit might become something more. Sometimes, a restless spirit might cause a man to break.

Nineteen years ago, long before he rose to become a Homicide Detective, Eric Riley helped end the notorious Bayou Phantom’s killing spree at great personal cost. Now the past is refusing to stay buried, bringing his old nightmares back to the surface.

Today, a killer is leaving a trail of bodies all around New Orleans once more. All of it feels far too familiar to Riley: the ritualistic poses, the MO, the sensations of dread and helplessness tickling the back of his neck like a demon’s breath. In mounting desperation, Riley is examining the secrets of the past, seeking new information that may help him stop the killer.

With each new victim, the personal stakes climb higher, and Eric finds that looking back may prove more dangerous than anyone could possibly have realized.

Has the Bayou Phantom returned to haunt the Crescent City? Or is something even darker lurking beneath the muddy water, waiting to pull Riley under for good?”

The Film Students Who Can No Longer Sit Through Films The attention-span crisis goes to the movies.

“The modern attention-span crisis is not limited to the written word,” Rose Horowitch reports. “Now professors are finding that they can’t even get students—film students—to sit through movies”:

Thread up, and especially this part. No one in a creative field should be using gAI in *ANY* way. You don't get to sell out other creatives just b/c it's not "your" field. No gAI writing, art, narration, music, etc. Just. Don't.

I’m deeply involved with the development of this game. It’s gonna be truly an experience to play with others.

The author credited as "High Meadow Grandmother" is not an individual in the sense that we consider independent thinking people, and though "Grandmother" is a feminine appellation, there is no reason to suggest that the author is of any gender in the way we can concieve of one.

The Ffassis do not communicate vocally, and so have no perception of spoken language. The words used in this translation are close equivalents to the concepts that are communicated through complex carbohydrates and other chemicals passed through the net or encoded into pollen.

A note on terminology and translation:

A poem of longing and praise, translated from the original Ffassis ruminations of "High Meadow Grandmother". First recorded via pollen capture and then confirmed through mycorrhizal echo on epoch 3, year 1272, day 2.37 in the northern subalpine reach of Ffas.

Waning light brings
The thinking cold
We muse in the depths
Safe from the dearth
Until warmth and flow
Usher in the feast.
