In this tightly controlled media age, interviewing professional sportspeople is pretty much a waste of time. I interviewed Jason Button a while back, and was unable to get anything worthwhile out of him.

Lazy author tells his readers to look up things he CBA to list.
Nothing says dedication and commitment to your readers quite like telling them to look it up on the internet 😂
Among other horrors, yes
Ha! Mis-lit is a popular genre, so I confidently predict that mis-hist will be the new big thing.
Middle aged man looking horrified at the prospect of pitching a book about unimaginable horrors of WW1 to a publisher
The look on my literary agent’s face when he reads my latest book proposal.
Good man!
I think it’s fine to have two on the go, a couple bubbling under, and one that you really want to write but know you never will.
Beautiful oak tree in Alexandra Park
A very pleasing oak tree in my local park 👌
A slide from my presentation
Address of talk
If any London or south-east peeps fancy an evening listening to me talk about the 12 battles of the Isonzo, and why you should give a damn, it’s happening at the London East branch of the WFA, 19.30hrs this Thursday, everyone welcome (£4 donation on the door). Signed copies of TiTM will be available
Thanks Dave! It was a joy to research and write, and I hope that shows through in the finished book.

Unknown female Serbian fighter
I don’t know her name (she’s identified only as Vojinović's girlfriend), nor do I know what became of her, but she’s rather splendid. She took part in the Toplica Uprising in Serbia in 1917.
Photo of an Austro-Hungarian soldier wearing a medal and holding some dodgy plans for a mine explosion.
Leutnant Albin Mlaker, an argumentative Slovenian sapper in the Austrian army in WW1, was constantly awarded medals even though he wasn’t very good at his job and got on everyone’s tits.
Captured an empty fort - medal.
Cocked up mining on Monte Cimone - medal.
Blew up a bit of Monte Kal - medal.
It was what made me want to be a journalist. How times have changed!
The Italians built a cable car (teleferica) up to nearby Forcella Staunies, so most of the material came up in that.
The people who found the guns are equally stupid, giving a suspicious package a kick 😂
Newspaper report mentioning cannibalism during the Great Retreat
Is it bad that, as I research cannibalism during the FWW, I can’t get this old joke out of my head?
Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says “Does this taste a bit funny to you?”
Thanks Dave, hope you enjoy it 👍

Personal dignity? I think that vanished with Tampongate.

A book about cannibalism
Extract from Czech prisoner’s diary
A casual mention of cannibalism during the Great Retreat of 1915 has stopped me in my tracks. Czech POW Jaroslav Janda mentions it in his diary. That’s a research rabbit hole I don’t really want to explore.
Sorry to hear this, terrifying!
That’s a shocker!
The tripartite invasion of Serbia was severely disrupted by the Košava, a cold and wet south-easterly storm.
Unfinished infographic plotting weather conditions during the Great Retreat of 1915
Deep-diving into historic weather records for the Balkans in late 1915. I want to know exactly how terrible the “terrible weather” really was, and the history books never actually say.
That’s a hell of a claim by Nash!
Hmmm, doesn’t look much like a Russian or German soldier
As a connoisseur of implausible WW1 stories, The Wolf Truce (Eastern Front, 1917) is my current diversion. And the AI image I found online is 👌
