"changes to SNAP are happening alongside cuts to Medicaid. It leads to what Allen calls a “terrible synergistic effect” of people’s food being taken away and people getting sick because of it while health care is stripped away."
Eligibility unchanged: its all policy change via administrative burdens

What will life be like after the Education Department? Look at what came before bit.ly/4esML7J
If you’ve followed me the past 4 years you know a central theme is:
Only in the Trump-era could school vouchers—born in resistance to Brown v Board and nurtured by billionaires—have hit their historical stride in a long con sold as racial opportunity and middle class hope.
One more thing about this - yes it’s racist, yes it’s hypocritical, and yes international students benefit the US - but also he says we should “invest in our own people” which is why they want to slash domestic spending on healthcare, science, and education?
“Before the war began, the U.S. Department of Agriculture projected consumers would see food prices jump only about 3% in 2026. But a report from the agency in March predicts that food prices could increase as much as 6.1% this year.”
Text on graphic reads: The Department of Justice has dropped 23,000 criminal cases while prosecuting 32,000 new immigration cases in just the first six months of Trump’s second term. -Nearly 5,000: federal drug cases, including trafficking and money laundering -Over 900: cases of federal program or procurement fraud -More than 1,300: cases involving terrorism and national security
The DOJ quietly closed 23,000+ criminal cases in the first six months of Trump’s second administration, abandoning hundreds of investigations into terrorism, white-collar crime, drugs and other offenses as it shifted resources to pursue immigration cases.

The President starts a war with Iran.
Now, his family looks to profit from it.
The corruption is enough to make you sick.
ACA marketplace plans: big shift from silver to bronze plans in rural & urban areas. Bronze plan choices up 11-12 percentage points; silver plan choices down 17 points (urban), 14 points (rural). Raises concerns about exposure to out of pocket costs; bronze plans higher deductibles (than silver)
Immigration enforcement is the number one priority of this administration — beyond everything else. And when the DOJ makes that its number one priority, it means that they have to drop a bunch of other cases, including ones with far more serious consequences.
The Education Department said it would move out of its headquarters in downtown D.C., the latest and most visible step in the Trump administration’s campaign to eliminate the agency altogether.
The Trump regime got rid of 10,109 PhDs in science and related fields, representing 14% of the total number of PhD scientists in the federal workforce.
HEP author Josh Cowen recently sat down for an interview with @hcrichardson.bsky.social's American Conversations podcast and discussed school vouchers, education policy, and research from THE PRIVATEERS. Listen to this conversation here:
UN votes to recognise enslavement of Africans as 'gravest crime against humanity'
The proposal was adopted with 123 votes in favour and three against - the **United States, Israel** and Argentina.

At least 1,243 people have been killed by drone strikes in Haiti as of January 21.
Drone strikes.
In Haiti.

Not so marvelous news.
~95,000 scientists have left the federal government since the Trump regime took over.
NEW: The US and Ecuador claimed they bombed a drug trafficking complex in early March.
A @nytimes.com investigation found it was actually a dairy farm.
From Ecuador:

For some scale, NOAA's budget is $7 billion a year, the National Park Service's budget is $3 billion a year, and the entire federal public defender system costs under $2 billion a year.
Heck, this is more than twice what ICE got for Trump's signature mass deportations last July.
Serious question -- were there *any* congressional hearings on this?
You know, those things with expert witnesses and evidence, where both sides get to advance their arguments for and against a particular piece of legislation?
Because those things are where legislation usually gets "litigated"
"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land"
NEWS: Six months before the Trump admin began bombing Iran, the Department of State fired its oil and gas experts.
State’s energy division got completely DOGE’d. And with it went the people who knew how to plan for a global energy crisis.
When I first saw the only public document justifying the US Administration's $100,000 tax on H-1B visas, I couldn't believe it.
The analysis was full of mistakes. Big ones. Basic ones.
So I got the same data and reanalyzed it correctly. This is the result.
Following up on this. NYT reporting yesterday that the Trump administration is now spending millions of taxpayer dollars maintaining tankers they have seized because courts are raising these same questions: namely, you can't sell something you don't have title to.
The art of the deal, baby

Just an ordinary day on the West Bank: Israeli police have killed an entire family—two young Palestinian brothers and their parents—shooting all four in the head and face as the family returned from a Ramadan shopping trip. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/m...
Whoa. This is big. "The U.S. Navy has refused near-daily requests from the shipping industry for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on Iran, saying the risk of attacks is too high for now." www.reuters.com/world/middle...
The Trump admin AGAIN claims that it's an "emergency" that they can't immediately strip 350,000 people (most who entered legally and have never undocumented) of their ability to legally remain in the United States, even though conditions in Haiti have only been getting worse.
Correction:
We spent basically Head Start's total annual budget ($12B) on the new Gulf War in its first week. So we are now well past its annual budget.
